Does anyone know what the standard or other settings for the original rear shock on a 97 YZF750 are? I'm fitting one to my 94 model (no separate rebound/compression damping, different preload adjuster) so I don't have the relevant handbook. I'd just like to start out with the standard settings before I fiddle about with it.

Hope this helps. Always record changes and results including varieties of road conditions, tire pressure, passengers if any. These adjustment records and noticeable difference can help you get the same basics that top notch suspension team set-up techs started with. Get a little black book and begin the adventure.

You got it. Exposed threads from top to spring top ring.
