In reply to Willi's post on the first page of this thread:

I've just changed my gearbox for the sake of it :banana :P :P :poke

Well I had to strip down the top end, and it was cold outside so I was in no rush, and there was the motor on the bench and... you know how it is, I'd never had a 4 stroke 4 cylinder to pieces before!

I would've loved to have painted and decorated the bike too, (and done a 1070) but the cash only goes so far and with what was left after the head work I got a 2nd hand Ohlins, so it's gonna look like a dog for one more year. All scratched up and in the raincloud grey colour scheme. EUGGH

But it should go like new. Less likely to get half-inched that way I s'pose.

John

Just remember Hooli those guys have to make a stopover in the mid-west first before coming out to your neck of the woods :banana

Good to hear, Tim. I'm hoping to finally have the bike up and running this week too.

Cams fitted - It took a while to get here, I had to let the project alone for a day just to make sure I was calm enough to fit the cams and not bend any valves....

And finally, Doing the oil mod on the clutch hub, and fitting all that in..

Didn't get a final assembly pic, there was a break in the rain and I hustled the motor into my pick-up and got it up to tim's place between rain drops yesterday evening, so he will have to put up anything further.
And there Ya go

You should call Jason - We could make a deal on your 750 engine.
I really didn't mean to sound like such a ball buster on you first query.
I can negotiate. At least a little bit. :poke

I'm just touched that you would notice John - got me all warm & fuzzy feel'in
for a minute there (maintain Elvis, maintain now...)
I can say I've hoped doing the photo-documentation would at least be somewhat usefull to others here in the brotherhood who may be considering case-spliting projects of their own. :2cents :D

YEs, big thumbs up for taking the time to post all those instructive pics. I am opening up a 1000 FZR engine for the second time and feel some comfort in knowing other amateurs go thru the same hell.

Thanks

It fired right up... after I charged the battery. Took it out for about 25 minutes and ran it through the gears. Took it up the interstate 2 exits then down a bunch of backroads. Seems to be doing just fine. Now to put on the lowers and take some pics.

Can't ride it again till Tuesday as the tags run out tonight.

BIG KUDOS to Bob (aka EXUPElvis) for doing the trans swap for me. It seemes to have a bit more power, but that may be from just not riding for 2 fricking months.

I'm so happy..... :banana

Okay, here's the rest of the story.

I already have a scratch in the powder coat, but it is too dificult to explain. Let's just say it happened while I was installing the motor by myself.

Image

I also have a stain which is about 5 inches from the scratch, from where it came I do not know, but suspect a small fuel spill as that was the only liquid that has touched the frame.

So here is the assembly photos. I'm glad that there was no one else around to take pics of my blood, sweat, and frustrations.

And here is the final pics. Sorry, but I haven't yet washed it.
