Can the lights in the speedo and tach be replaced easily ? Do I have to take off the fairing to get to them ? Also, has anyone supplanted the lights with LED's ? All of mine went out over the period of about a month.

It is always easier to do things with the upper off.... :poke

Yes the bulbs can be replaced and yes they can be replaced with LED's. Contact Allan over at LEDGear, He'll get you squared away.

Thanks Dude. I'm beginning to think I need to move to the UK to get quality parts/services.

A lot more questions to come !

the bulbs are pretty easy to change. it's just a matter of getting at the speedo that makes it "difficult".

Would these be available at auto-parts stores or only through a dealer ?

I have seen some replacement LED bulbs at my LPS but they are expensive. It was like $9 for a 194 LED replacement. I just posted a thread in the 89- forum on my guages that LEDgear is reworking for me. He is installing LED backlighting, a gear indicator and some faceplates for me. Check it out.

My guages have always been dim (tach, speedo and temp), even at night they lack the brightness I would like to have.

Just curious, what tells the indicator what gear it is in? I dont know of any sensor on the 89-95 engine down there...

Just in case anyone needs to know the light numbers for the standard replacement lights for the tach/speedo and other cluster components. I found that the Sylvania 24 and 194LL lights work fine. Now if they just installed without me having to take off the fairing !

I can usually work my hands in between the fairing and cluster to undo the two bolts. I have Airtech body work though that may make a difference.

I take a XXXL glove. Long fingers though. The throttle side is pretty easy, the other is the hardest. Maybe the Airtech fairings help me some. I have flex headed gear wrenches too which helps.

I bought them when Gearwrench first came out with them. Haven't broken one yet. Just got to make sure your wrenching it the right way or you can break a speedo cluster mounting tab.

That would be the reason LEDgear got to sell me a complete cluster.
