It's to slow down the gas flow rates and get the pressure up just in front of the valve face. Aids in cylinder filling.

This ought to get ya there...
Do they fall in the category of "If you gotta ask, ....." ? !!
After reviewing the question, there are two ways that it can be taken.

1; "They" meaning me, Do "I" fall in the category of "If you gotta ask?
Then I'm an idiot because i have to ask.

2; "They" meaning Robinson, Do they fall in the category of "If you gotta ask?
Then they are the ones to ask if I/we have a question.

If by 1, statement stands.

If by 2, My bad... Most Apologies. Sorry.

Personally, I took it as.... "If you have to ask them how much does it cost to have them do the work......then you may not be able to afford it....." type statement.

But hey that's just me and I found the whole thing to be funny..... hence the "Richard" statement/edit (yeah... that was me)

Exactly ! I remember when I built my first "real" engine. Chevy 350 street motor that had no problem running 12's at Atco. Cost me 2K in parts and 2K in machine work and that was in 1984 !
