Can I put the head on with the engine IN THE FRAME?

Post by Yoniboi »

Got some friends coming round to lend a hand to get the engine in this Sunday but haven't received the sodding dowel pin that lines up the head with the block in time from Mr. Yamaha.

I'm toying with the idea of getting the engine in, supported underneath, and bolted at the back, then putting the head on, torquing it, and bolting it the the upper frame rails later.

Would that be feasable??????

Shoot me if I'm being an idiot.
Thanks
John

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but only use one of the 2 rear mounting bolts so it acts as a piviot. Personally, I'd wait as you'll have an eaiser time getting the cams set with the engine out.

just my 2¢

Cheers Tim,

The valves are already set... it's easier with the engine out. I was more worried about access, you know... to torque the head properly, I'm still not sure I could get the torque wrench in there without any major problems... especially the ones on the outside edges!

Thanks for getting back to me so quick.

Yes. I've done head gaskets with the motor in the frame.
