failed attempts at linking to the yahoo pics...I may have to consult to a higher authority to workaround this one.

dj that's sharp especially the polished wheels

Okay if I look at one more 94 with no decals on the sides...it's gonna make me think it came oem that way. So did you remove them yourself ? It does look nice with just the Yamaha logo on the bottom and the tank original.

Difficult to tell that it is 10 years old huh? Nice lines...raised rear...looks new
-John
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >jjs777 at: 7/14/04 9:36 pm

I only took the decals off the front and tail of mine. I'm thinking of repainting the tank, but leaving the side decals alone. Lord knows I can't afford to replace the decals for what Yami wants for them. Something like $170 front lower, $133 rear, per side.

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Has anyone seen my keys?
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
'94 FZR 1000

ok dj careful not to let nbot get too close....you may end up having 6 holes drilled in the rear sets...err 7 holes....err makes that 6+7/2 = 6.5 holes avg per side

-John
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >jjs777 at: 7/15/04 2:24 am

Thanks for the compliments

Post by djalbin »

Guys,
Thanks for the compliments. I do get asked frequently if the bike is new. I say no it's a 1994 ... and they look at me in either disbelief, or I'm lying to them, or I'm being sarcastic and making fun of them ... I'm not sure which. Most people, unless they own one or were into sportbikes 10 years ago, don't know what an FZR1000 is anyway.

The bike is very close to the way I bought it. An aluminum polishing shop in Tampa Florida apparently did the polishing (their lettering was on the pillion cover). The pillion cover had a crack so I had it plastic welded and repainted (eliminating the lettering). I had to fabricate mounting brackets for the pillion cover because the Yamaha dealer could not find any OEM part numbers for them. Bike did not have a chain cover so I bought a polished one from Lockhart Phillips. I also bought the cluster gauge cover from Lockhart Phillips. I had the seat recovered with new vinyl. That's about it. Most of my effort was maintenance (bike was in dire need of all maintenance) and setup (settings were random ... even the preload on the front forks was set different from each other). After that it was play with different tire combinations and suspension links.

Keeping it clean is not a problem. The roads are dry here in Tucson (except during our monsoon season). It's more dust than dirt and grime, so a terry cloth and a California Duster is all that's needed (just dry wipe it). Whenever I have to strip it down for maintenance (maybe once a year or so) I wax the plastic and use Blue Magic Liquid Polish on the metal.
Don

Real nice ride Don. Looks great, it's easy to see why people think its new. I just want to see some pics of the roads I've heard you talk about!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... =tonup>Ton up at: 7/15/04 6:59 pm

Ride photos

Post by djalbin »

Ton Up,
Good idea about the road photos. I'll take the camera with me on a ride and take some photos. I'll do it on a day when I can do the ride twice; once for the ride and then again for the photos. I don't want to spoil the ride by stopping at every photo opportunity.
Don

No I don't have a fever, yes that was my firends ride in the pic, no I don't have the Shadow any more, and I have had at least 3 bikes for the last 6 years, 2 bikes for the last 12 years, and now only have 1 3/4 left now. Whew....
Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Has anyone seen my keys?
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
'94 FZR 1000

Wheels

Post by djalbin »

Nate,
The wheels were already done when I bought the bike. I assume the aluminum polishing shop (Tampa, FL) whose lettering was on the pillion cover did all the original polishing. The front wheel was painted yellow at one time, but the bike shop I bought the bike from had it polished to match the rest of the bike. By the time I saw the bike it was all polished.
Don
