My 87 FZR1000 Streetfighter project

Post by ColinM »

Well, it's getting there...I've been keeping people in the 87-88 FZR1K section updated, but now i'll show off my progress so far to everyone else.

Ok so it's an 87 FZR1000, but the tailsection and subframe are from a 99 R6, the rear swingarm, wheel, and shock are from a 94 FZR1000, the front forks, wheel, and brakes are all from a 1999 GSXR750. The copperish color I painted the tank and wheels is a Mercedes car color tweaked slightly, as is the silver on the tank, The tailsection will have similar design to it. The frame, swingarm, and lip of the wheels were all hand polished by me. The gauges are Acumen SP700 aftermarket gauges with a shift light/tacho pod attached in the billet housing. The headlight and fairing is an Acerbis Cyclops DOT approved setup. The mirrors are both bar end style. The motor that is not quite in the frame yet is a heavily modified FZ750 motor....Think that's it...waiting on some silver tomahawk tires I ordered and a chain. Finishing up the paint on the tailsection tonight. Still missing a few small things here and there but almost complete for the most part. Any input would be great!
Machines:

1984 Honda MB-5 (from Holland)
1978 BMW R100/7
1986 Yamaha FZ750
1987 Yamaha FZ700
1988 Yamaha FZR1000
1987 Yamaha FZR1000
1989 Yamaha FZR1000
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >ColinM at: 5/13/05 6:25 pm

I can say that every member that has posted a pic (or had one posted for them <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... I find taking pics and documenting the progress during a overhaul very tedious. Yep...hats off to you and keep us posted with pics during the changeover

-John
1995 FZR1000
1990 FZR1000
1990 FZR1040

Lol, I usually do too, but I have so many car and bike projects that were junk when I got them, then people just see the end result and they don't really realize how much work went into it unless you have before, during and after pics. I have a before pic of this one...but it's basically just a pic of the frame and all the other junk in a pile in the corner of my garage...my FZ750 started the same way lol. Oh and i don't see this project as changing anything major...because it just started as a frame with nothing else. I bought the frame on ebay with a clean title because I got it for a steal, then everything else kinda snowballed. I was originally planning on using the GSXR forks and newer FZR rear setup for my FZ750...but that is another project for another post hehe. The corner of my basement continues to get more and more clogged with various FZ and FZR parts, must have some kind of addiction or something...
Machines:

1984 Honda MB-5 (from Holland)
1978 BMW R100/7
1986 Yamaha FZ750
1987 Yamaha FZ700
1988 Yamaha FZR1000
1987 Yamaha FZR1000
1989 Yamaha FZR1000
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >ColinM at: 5/13/05 7:58 pm

I agree on the documentation thing - it's a pain sometimes, but it is worth it to see how this stuff comes together.
Good job Colin, and thanx for taking the extra effort!

cvhjkthis

lol thanks guys. My arms got quite the workout from all that polishing...but to be honest the biggest pain was masking off the wheels correctly so it was in an exact even circle in the lip of the rim...I kept on putting the wheels back on a stand I made up quick and would spin them to see if the masking was perfect the way I wanted it...what can I say i'm an anal perfectionist lol. But my garage and basement are always a mess and I can never find the wrench or socket I need Got the tailsection all painted and done a little while ago, next up I have to finish up welding a bracket to hold my taillight/turnsignals and the custom undertail I made to the R6 sub frame. Finally got some more gas so I can weld again!
Machines:

1984 Honda MB-5 (from Holland)
1978 BMW R100/7
1986 Yamaha FZ750
1987 Yamaha FZ700
1988 Yamaha FZR1000
1987 Yamaha FZR1000
1989 Yamaha FZR1000

Holy thread resurrection! I'm back! After 2 moves, various purging of bike and car projects i'm back in the bike game! Now to get started on my FZR project again lol...i'm a little further along than I was last time I was on here. Engine mounted, radiator brackets made, wiring made...just have to run the plumbing and finish a few details here and there. My Ducati 748 was stealing all my time, that project took priority over the FZR unfortunately. Hmmm, speaking of which time to update the signature too! Holy cow it's been a long time lol.

You can't leave us hanging after a hook like that. This thread is pointless without more pics.

Lol, well in all fairness this thread is really really old. I'll get some pics up, I just used the rubber straps that came with the headlight, I had to stretch them though...it was a tight fit.
