genesis intake upgrade

Post by flyingcircus68 »

Here are some pictures of modifications that I had done:
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/ ...
Top view into air box to show how the oval filter seats in the bottom of 87 box.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/ ...
Air box, sans snorkel, to show center section that was frankensteined onto the stock 87 air box. Bits of wire on the floor are from wiring in the new motor kill switch.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/ ...
A comparison of the 87 (left) and 94 intake snorkels. 94 oval filter shown in back.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/ ...
This picture shows how I swapped the adjusting screws on R1 throttle cables when I shortened them to fit. R1 throttles are so nice!
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/ ...
tight fit, but it works

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/ ...
picture of new throttle and kill switch. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/ ...

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/ ...

The above images are of an FZ750 intake manifold that was used a practice piece for my intake upgrade. I machined a ring out of aluminum to match the diameter of the new larger rubber coublings. I then mounted the manifold on a face plate and machined the original feature off on my lathe. I made a stepped shoulder to help locate the rings during welding. I then blended the inner geometry using a carbide burr on a die grinder.

One benefit to going this route is that it allows you to machine the manifold to minimize the masking that occurs due to the offset of inlet vs outlet. In other words the center to center distance of carbs is closer than the center to center of cylinders and therefore air flow is mis-aligned with the trifurcation of cylinder head ports. The new larger diameter inlet necessitates a larger cross section throughout and I biased this growth toward a straighter flow path.

<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... iker_3.gif ALT=":riding">

Admin: I didn't do anything Circus. jetting parameters used:

pilot screw - 2.5
pilot jet - 40
emulsion tube - factory pro
needle - factory pro (modified to .115 root diameter)
needle clip - 3rd from top
slide springs - custom 70% of stock spring rate
main jets - 122.5/125
float level - 6-7mm above casting line (fluid )

Note: custom slide springs require the .115 root diameter.
Stock springs will probably work fine with .117 root diameter factory pro needles. If there is a flat spot at above and below 1/8 throttle position, try .116 root diameter needles.

<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ock_On.gif ALT=":rock">

Sorry about the repeat. I had some funky error message when I hit post, so I made a second attempt. Great typing practice.
