Hey here are some pics of my '96 yzf1000 I got the other day. It's all apart atm because the tappet cover gasket started leaking Yamaha quoted me $86 for a new one... holy moly!

niiiice... I've just done the tappet cover gaskets on my car, that wasn't cheap either. At least you only have to do it once every 10 years.

If you're reconnecting the exup valve, make sure it moves properly
and the cables slide smoothly, before you connect them to the servo. Don't
want to strip the gears inside that servo ($$$).
Also while you're in the guts of it, see if you have standard air filter,
K+N replacement, or pod filters.
It's probably pretty difficult to find out if you have a jet kit and what
brand without completely disassembling the carbs. Whatever, if the bike
works with the exup operational, don't worry about it

The cables on my valve are pretty crapped actually... I might find out how much new ones are. I really wouldn't like to wreck the servo because then even if I disconnect the cables it will be giving an error won't it.
I took the air filter out but I couldn't see any writing on it or anything, would that just mean it's standard?
I think they must have put in new pistons and rings at some stage because all the top end down to the head is shiny clean metal but the bottom is just a grey colour. There's no way to tell though is there (without taking the head off)?

I can't think of one.I think they must have put in new pistons and rings at some stage because all the top end down to the head is shiny clean metal but the bottom is just a grey colour. There's no way to tell though is there (without taking the head off)?
I think the head is painted with anti-corrosion shiny silver paint, and the barrell is just raw aluminium (with some dull corrosion over the surface).
