I'm with ya, I can't keep my polished wheels clean. Might have something
to do with riding 2 hours a day, 6 days a week.

Hey Hotcam

When I climb on my bike, out of experience, I have four items in my backpack: Chainlube, tyre puncture kit, tyre weld and two stroke oil( +-25ml a tank keeps your inlet valves and exup valve happy).

Anyways, the chainlube is the thing. My mates' bikes are always pressure washed and polished before and after they ride. They always complain about chain and sprocket wear. I on the other hand, who rides every day last longer (time and kilo wise) than them on chain and sprockets. I don't mind a dirty rear wheel.

I can't tell you how many times I've been crapped out for lubing polished bikes' chains. Come on, it's basic, keep the mechanical parts working.

Yeah I agree, I'd rather clean a dirty wheel than buy a AU$350 chain and
sprocket set.

However, judging by this last weekend, I'd also rather install fancy
hotup parts than clean the parts I already got :cool :)

Oh well, I got R1 brakes and Ducati radial master on a dirty bike. So what. :P

It's also down to how gung-ho you are with the lube. Blast it on and you cover everything in shit the next time you ride off, but just barely pressing the nozzle so it drips out of the can and between the side-plates, then a drop or two on the edge/end of each roller does the same job. Takes three times as long to put the lube on, but saves you the same time in cleaning it off (the wheels)... and you're bike looks better meanwhile.

Still, keep thinking about a pro-oiler. Maybe the perfect Xmas present for the bike.

Dirty bikes run excellent. I had the dirtiest, ugliest VFR400 in South Africa, but mechanics was always right. Did almost 200 000 kms with it. Eventually the motor went, still gotta fix her up again.

Do it John!!! It is worth every penny, pence, peso, mark, lira, euro, or whatever other denomination you happen to use.

Just call and ask to speak to Pablo. Tell him Tim from the USA said "Hello and the pump is still pumping. (you really can't kill these things, trust me.... I've tried)

Yes, and the kind of lube too. I've got the technique and the type of
chainlube right, to the point where a lot of the gunk on my wheels
is just brake dust. My front wheel is as dirty as the back.

I'm considering painting them black next time the tyres are off...
with a heavy duty epoxy paint (and acid etch primer) that I've
had success with before, and it's in gloss so the gunk *should* come
off easier...?

It would need rim stripe stickers to jazz it up though, and I'm not
sure I want to go there because all the try-hard wannabe racerboys
are putting on rimstripe stickers. Hmm, perhaps hand painted rimstripes
would be better...

I suppose it is theoretically possible that a few of our esteemed
colleagues may have rimstriped (sounds rude!), else the wannabe
tryhard racerboys would have no heroes to imitate ... :banana
