Yeah, it's absolutely one of the first ones they made, the main frame anyway. It started life black, then went green and the last time I stripped the paint it looked so nice naked that I stuck the stickers on and had it laquered like that.
Problem was, when I bought it, that the swingarm bearings would only last six months at most, so when a mate wrecked his MKII I had the swingarm off that 'cos the bearings were bigger. No problems now. It's gone through seven forks, an early Manitou (think it was a Mach5) I snapped the arch on, a Manitou DC I kept blowing seals on, a carbon fibre Pace twin crown I ripped the fork leg bottoms off (at my second Megavalanche... so someone lent me a 7 or 8cm (I dont remember now) travel Bomber for the race!), then a Manitou Millennium (beauty), a Marzocchi JnT 150 and last but not least the Nixon 145.
The Hayes are original Mags from 1998, still going strong, and the other stuff gets replaced when it wears out. I still use 8 speed (XT) and the rear mech was a 1998 XTR until this summer when it retired to make way for the new one, which is loads quieter. Hubs are HOPE and it weighs 14.4kg (and I wouldn't swap it for ANYTHING else with pedals, no way)! 10 years of rides together, four Megavalanches, two seasons of the Maxxis Cup, and now it gets used mostly to go to the park on with the kids!!! My son's getting his first BMX for Xmas (it's a surprise!).

Hey there Yoniboi, thanks for the look in your shed! Hmmm, the Orange Patriot does it for me also... Very sweet ride.

I recently acquired an 04 Norco Atomik a fair bit heavier, but the same sort of porno lines. I only use it to bang up and down the curbs down the street when I walk the dog, and to get around at the track, nice to be on, even if heavy. It's a nice warm-up in the mornings for my new hips...Cheers :)
