I'm Baaaack.....

Post by Outlaw »

Hello everyone!

It's been awhile since I last visited. After I sold my FZR1000 things got hectic and life sorta got in the way. Haven't really been riding in a couple of years. But all that's about to change! :banana I just couldn't stay away. Check out what I'm on my way to pick up this weekend.... (assuming everything is as good as it appears to be...) It's good to be back!

Updated Photos today (6/2/09) finally got around to shooting some better shots. Deleted the old stuff from photobucket....

Looks clean. I think I remember seeing that bike for sale all over craigslist a few weeks ago.

looks pretty sweet. bone stock too by the looks. just get rid of those yellow headlight covers/lenses and you'll be set. not to mention the ugly fender, reflectors, and stock signals ;)

Well, I just got back from picking it up... All I can say is the photos don't do it justice... :banana It's not perfect, but I'd say 99.9%. The only flaw I was able to find was where the seat rubbed on the plastic. You can't see it unless the seat is off the bike. If it were sitting on a dealers showroom floor you'd swear it was new. That really makes the trip (from he**) worth it.

Managed to fry the transmission in my truck, the serpentine belt tensioner and belt also went. This happened all at once while I was going up a really steep mountain. I thought I blew the engine... Hopefully the tranny is just a seal. I fixed the belt/tensioner and managed to get her home, but now it'll barely pull itself. Just got in, it's dark and wet out so I'll check first thing in the morning.

The headlight covers are already off. :) When I saw the photos of the bike
the first thing I thought was "the windshield and headlight covers have to go"
but, like I said the photos don't do it justice... I thought the windshield was yellow....
It's not, it's orange. That changes things a bit, and now I'm on the fence about the windshield.
Still not 100% sure what I'm going to do. But I do have a set of ugly yellow headlight covers available to anyone who wants them! :)

Great to hear, I must admit my first reaction when I saw
the pics was "damn, that looks TOO good to be true,
hope it's not a scam!"
Well done picking that bike up... definitely worth a belt
in the truck (tho I hope it's not too expensive for you).

Well, looks like I blew a seal in the tranny. I put 3 quarts of transmission fluid in it this morning, and it dropped right into gear. Drives fine now, but I've seen transmissions do this before. Sometimes they're fine, and sometimes they work for a week or two, then not at all.... Time will tell.

Wish I had rented an enclosed trailer instead of the motorcycle trailer I did. (by the way U-haul trailers suck) I ran into rain on the way back, and that nice clean bike is now filthy.... Probably the first time it's seen rain.... Oh well, guess it'll give me an excuse to play with it, just not the way I had in mind. :)

Paid $3500.00 for it. Seemed reasonable to me, I know a dealer would have asked a lot more for it. NADA is $4875.00 for what that's worth...

PM me your info and I'll send the headlight covers out to you FZRDude.

I have to keep the windshield for now as I don't have another one to replace it, and there's a
good possibility I'll keep it on the bike....

It's kinda strange.... Did you ever see that episode of Seinfeld where the girl he was dating
looked really hot in certain lighting from certain angles,
and then change the lighting, or viewing angle she looked scary ugly? Well,
that's where I am with the windshield right now. To me it looks a little foggy (opaque),
it would look a lot better if it was clearer. That might just be the age, I
don't know. Did yours look clearer when it was new?

That reminds me... I want you to know that you inspired me to get this bike. Say 2-3 years ago....
Isn't that when you were doing your rebuild? I remember reading your
posts and looking at the photos of your bike.
Really sharp! I like it alot. Good job!

Why thank you Outlaw, makes me feel like I have made a difference in perception of our bikes.....

If'n you decide to get rid of the screen, I'd be happy to trade you a stock clear screen for your troubles....

PM Sent....

I have a clear one that is stock, a deep purple (clear), yellow (clear), and dark smoke (clear?). Still looking for a blood red and dark blue screen, although that orange-ish looking one you have is very interesting....

Outlaw,

Keep the amber I say!

Wickedscore btw, and glad to have you back

I actually bought that one full pop only I've got a double bubble from Z-G. Although, I think the amber colour will go a little better with blue too.

I've found that Plexus cleans up fogginess on windscreens really well.
Failing that, a good car wax polish.

Well, I got it licensed and insured today. Cleaned it up, and took it out for a ride.
It was supposed to be a short ride, just to get the feel of it, as today was
nasty windy and chilly to boot..... 150 miles later I refilled the tank and finally
parked it! :banana I'm chilled to the bone, and I can't feel my hands, but
I'm happy as could be! When I first took off I told myself "ok, it's been
awhile and this is a new bike. Just take it easy until you get used to it. No
high speed curves etc etc.... Well, that lasted until I hit the first interstate
on-ramp! I forgot how much fun those can be! The bike handles great,
acceleration is phenomenal and it feels very light and nimble. It's going to
be very hard to stay out of trouble on this one. Going around the I-465
loop, it was all I could do to keep it under 70. Had to ride in 4th or 5th gear,
otherwise it keep sneaking up on me. (a lot of that probably had to do with
the fact that everyone else was going 70-80 miles an hour, even the truck drivers)

Seems like it's idling a little high, but I noticed that the temp gauge hardly
ever got above 60C (at least on the first half of the trip which was directly
into the wind, the second half with the wind at my back it never really got above 70C)
Does this sound about right? I know the gauge is working, because while
I was idling it into the storage facility the gauge went
almost all the way up and the fan came on. (tight enclosed space and I
was doing quite a bit of wiggling to get it just right.)

Yeah the FZR temp gauge sensor is in the radiator, not in the head or
thermo housing.

This means that that the gauge will always show cold,
unless the bike reaches 82degrees and the thermostat opens.

Thanks....

The original owner had a slip on on it. He put the original muffler back on
before he sold it. I don't think the bike was ever run with the stock muffler.
When I first started it up you could smell the paint burning in. New bike
smell! ;)
