New Bike
Well the YZF1000 is gone. I decided that I wanted something a little more confortable to ride around. Right now I can only have one bike so this one is much more practical. Down the road who knows what I'll get again. Spook (Ralph) is trying to convince me to buy that YZF750 SP that's for sale over in the classifieds section. Very tempting indeed...

That's brilliant, and exactly the bike that is in line for me to purchase if my FZR ever goes bye-bye. For the same reasons too,
that is, only one bike in the garage, comfortable for regular duties,
but capable of dealing with racetrack-style riding if the red mist descends.
The 2006 has the most power, later models have slightly less HP.
I can see you have tall screen and seats, crash knobs,
fender eliminator, any other mods?
From when I was going to buy one (ended up rebuilding the FZR instead),
I found there was a bunch of popular, relatively cheap, mods for these:
- Ivan's Performance FCE device (smooths the throttle response
when it gets jerky over 4500rpm, not cheap but cheaper
than a PCIII and actually fixes the problem)
- Cut out catalytic converters in muffler and header pipe
(cooler running, more free flowing exhaust) (free)
- Airbox cutdown to increase power (free)
- throttle secondary butterfly removal/reduction (free)
(if you do all the above you'd probably need a PCIII or similar)
- 1 tooth shorter front sprocket (for acceleration) (cheap)
- Rear seat cowl made by a member of www.fz1oa.com
- Braided brake lines

Future plans call for gutting out the cat in the headers and a slip-on muffler. Just waiting for someone to post a used one on eBay or fz1oa. And by the way that is one great site. Plenty of info there about these bikes. Also the FCE and airbox mods are in the works. Right now I just want to ride it while the weather here is nice!

Yeah, after spending all summer working on my engine instead of riding,mods are in the works. Right now I just want to ride it while the weather here is nice!
I can fully agree with that statement... it's now winter here, thank God we
don't get snow here because I'm so short of riding I'd probably ride in it!
I have a brand new never used set of hard bags / panniers /side cases /
whatever you want to call them, for this bike in my garage.
One day I will either get an FZ1 for them, or put them on my FZR.

Anyway a set of hard bags for this bike would be nice, but Yamaha never offered them here as an option. Although they did in other markets like Canada. I have heard that the FJR1300 uses the same hard bags, but they are cost prohibitive to buy new. I don't really take long trips on the motorcycle so a tank bag along with a tail bag should be enough for a 1 or 2 night trip.
Oh and now that you have those hard bags sitting in your garage it will be more incentive to eventually get an FZ1. No point in letting them go to waste.

Yes they are nearly AU $2000 hereFJR1300 uses the same hard bags, but they are cost prohibitive to buy new
Obviously I'd go the same route and get soft bags if I was in your shoes, but
I got them mega cheap on ebay and couldn't pass them up.
Even if I never get an FZ1 I'll be able to make/modify some
mountings to fit them to something else... like my FZR.
It'd be the fastest hard-bagger in the south!
