Well Im off to Oran Park tomorrow[Satarday] for a track/test day on the GSXR. I do hope I can come to grips with the bike. It wont be as torquey as the FZR, but we weighed it up & its 21KGs lighter.
Im sure I'll miss the big fat torque curve of the 1000, but that should be negated with lighter weight.
So wish me luck fellas, all will be reveiled tomorrow night.

Just don't be comparing Steve cause of course it won't be like PJ, it will be like its self though, so just ask yourself if it'll work for you and don't be comparing or Steve is going to be one sad camper I would guess.

Yes Yes I know, I said, I'm building a project YZF1070
Basement is done now, 850 finished and gone...
Gotta get the new siding up on the house.
Fixing the FZ1 up, cleaning up garage and then I might even begin

Well I made it back in one peice.
The Suzuki is a ripper, but its so strange to ride, the thing has to be over 7000 rpm before any useable power is at hand, & it doesnt stop untill 13500!!! Its much lighter than FZR, & stops in shorter distances. That took some getting use to. I found my braking markers for the FZR didnt work at all. I was pulling up short all the time.
It was again40+ degs at Oran pk & the rear tyre was turning to jelly. [ Me too] The best I could do was a 1.23 something.[pretty poor]I have to find 5 seconds to equal the FZRs times.
But all in all a good test.
Will I be as fast on the GSXR?? Dont know. Its handles better, but it takes a lot more rider input to ride it. The FCR carbs are twitchy & havent got the creamy smooth power delivery of the FZR. In a straight line I think the FZR would come out in front. Over a lap? I dont know.
The FZR was so forgiving, & powerfull, you really cant make a blue, that it couldnt fix. You just sort of sit on the FZR & let it do the work. It fixes all the stuff ups you make & just continues on unruffled.
The gsxr is quite different, you need to ride it better or you just go slower.
Anyway Mike SS will have all that luxury now,[lucky bugger] & I 'll have to lift my game. But thats what its about, I suppose?

Hey Steve,
I told you not to compare it with PJ or you'd be plenty dissapointed, not to say I told you so.
It sounds like all you'll need is some time in the Gixxer's saddle though and you should soon be turning better laps, just gotta figure on keeping it above 7 grand and rev the piss out of it, that's all, remember my concern for you when you first showed the Gixxer? I figured you'd be thinking about where all your power is.
All the specs say you should be riding faster on the Gsxr and I'm sure you will in time, just give it a while my friend, you'll get it.

First round PCRA Chamionship Wakefield Park. Ive never raced a bike there before, but Ive done some in a car.Mike_SS wrote:Interesting. No doubt you will get quicker on it when you get to know it better. 40+ degrees are not ideal condiitons though.
When is the next outing ??
Yeah I think your right sickle44.
I will get better with time. But god that FZR was a dream bike to ride fast!

First day out, found where the areas to work on are, didn't chuck the bike
down the track, didn't die of heatstroke, sounds about as good as
anyone could hope for! Good luck with getting it set up (and getting
used to it) as quick as possible for the PCRA.
Yes it is a good looker...

Oh for sure Cam. You always put a good spin on things..It was a learning curve that had to happen.
I was really spoilt with the FZR.
Remember when I decided to have another go at racing? I always wanted a bike that would do most of the work, & I could just sit there & enjoy. Well the FZR really fitted that bill.
In perticular at the end when we got it sorted, it was so eazy to ride fast, as showed by my 6 hour times, in conditions that were not ideal to say the leased.
The GSXR will be right, I just have to learn what it likes & ride that way.
The biggest issue on the weekend was the rear tyre not hooking up. When I get a new set of tyres on it she'll be apples..
