grinding the swing arm???
grinding the swing arm???
ok, time for another question i shouldnt ask, but im going to anyway.

the bike is an 89, im about to mount a 98 yzf 750 shock on it, and since ive raised the rear end via the dog bones, the shock goes through the swing arm at a tad of an angle. not bad, but a little more snug than stock. the yzf shock's spring is wider, and because of that, im thinking i will have to go back to the stock dog bones.

question, if i exadurade the whole through the swing arm, will it compromise the strengh of the whole??? or am i ok with grinding away??? i have a spare swing arm, so im willing to try, as long as it dosent kill me.

zoid

Re: grinding the swing arm???
i have to say that i would not do it. frame, front and swing mods are about the only things i would not alter, do or try myself.
there is not really any way that you can calculate if it lasts or not. the only solution is if someone has done it before, and you can trust that someone to speak the truth.
but i have to ask this: why will you insist on using the yzf750 spring? especially since it will no way be better than an Öhlins made for the fiz1000?

Re: grinding the swing arm???
bikeazoid, you have my vote to attempt alteration yourself and possibly be the first. Let us know how it goes.

If folks don't try these things then where would hot rodding be today? Maybe I'm way off here but engineers over design things all the time, which leaves room to modify without risking structural integrity.

grinding the swing arm
I had this prob on a previous bike I had and ground out the middle a little, the wall is actually quite thick so will not cause any real problems.it is also supported by the axle and the bush it runs in.Hope this helps a little

Shocking truth
Beware, the spring in the YZF 750 is not suitable for the extra weight of the FZR. Wobble, wobble.
CHUCK D.
