big end bearings

Post by creed12r »

Firstly hello to you all, and thanks to anyone that posts a reply.
I am repairing a 1992 fzr 1000ru engine that suffered oil starvation I have the genuine workshop manual, in which it states that to find the size of the big end bearing you subtract the number stamped on the end of the crankshaft from the number stamped in ink on the big end of the con-rod. I can find no such number on the con-rod,which makes it rather difficult to select a bearing, if anyone has solved this problem before, could they please post, as buying all the sizes of bearings and trial fitting them all seems rather laborious.

is there still a colour on the edge of the bearing if there is then replace the bearing with that colour bearing, there should be a number on the rod? usually locted at the base of the rod where the cap locates and as you say subtract the crank number from this gives the bearing number ie number 1 is blue, 2 =black, 3=brown, 4=green, *(5=yellow only for the main bearing selection) hope this helps you out.
