shock rebuild

So I have my shock apart and was wondering if anyone in exup land has done there own re-valving? <br><br>Just like to try and work with the stocker before maybe going with an aftermarket unit. <p></p><i></i>

You'll need a spring compressor to take it off, thats the only tool I had to buy. Could have made one but for 50 bucks it's not worth my time.<br>At the bottom of the spring is a type of washer with a notch cut out of it. This will slid out once the spring is compressed from the top mounting shock bolt. Note, that you have to hold the spring above that notch washer. If I could post a pic I would, pictures worth a thousand words. Of course before you do all this you can drain the oil at the line going to the remote reservoir.<br>Something I noticed on the shock piston is the very sharp corners where the oil flows during the compression and rebound stroke. I think these sharp edges promote cavitation of the oil leading to fade in the damping characteristic. I'll ask a rebuilder if I should blend in a radius. <p></p><i></i>

We send ours to PPS, who we are dealers for. In shop rebuilds get a bit tricky when you have to have recharge ability w/ nitrous.<br><br>CHUCK D. <p></p><i></i>

Chuck D<br><br>Actually that's nitrogen, and a local bike shop can recharge if they have proper fittings. <br><br>As for a basic rebuild with no revalving change it's pretty straight forward. <p></p><i></i>

I’m sure that was just a nitro typo. <br><br>For a low buck spring compressor just use 3 evenly spaced hose clamps through about 3 coils. Never try a big lever, the spring will bite you in an unexpected way & with considerable speed.<br><br> <p></p><i></i>
