Hey man I've got the solution to your problem's ...... Buy a Kawaski ZX12r.. Godam fast bike man ... I killed an FZR1000 with my olady on the back once. But I envy the old stuff to .... If it was'nt for them my bike would not have come to be. But still think of 171 rwhp and 100ftpounds ripping at your arm's off down the 1/4 mile... and then a quick trip to walmart for a change of underware...

Hmmmm, while I admit the zx12 IS a nice bike, you are compairing apples to oranges. Different time eras and technologies, plus I feel the board members here arent into what is new and hip, they are into what THEY like and not what the masses approve...
To be completely honest, how OFTEN do you see a FZR1000??? The ZX12 is a dime a dozen bike and the FZR1000 has burned it's place on the motorcycle stepping stones to the future. Remember, the R1 EVOLVED from the FZR1000, which was the KING of the streets when it was new!!!
Not to sound smug, but how much have you spent on your zx12? Including purchase price? LOL I have LESS than $2000 into my 89 FZR1000 and still get TONS of compliments on how nice of a bike is, and also had many offers to sell it, but I will NOT part with my baby, she is MINE, all MINE, you cant have her!!! LOL

LOL, why do I imagine you're only fast in a straight line? It never ceases to amaze me. So what if you beat another bike? Maybe they don't know how to ride. Maybe they didn't know it was a race.ZX12r wrote:Hey man I've got the solution to your problem's ...... Buy a Kawaski ZX12r.. Godam fast bike man ... I had a Ferrari come up behind me REALLY fast one day in the mountains. I was in my wife's Jetta. I kicked it up into the triple digits and it wasn't too many curves before I couldn't see them in the rearview anymore. I never assumed my Volkswagen was faster than their Ferrari.

It's interesting, sometimes amazing, to see which bikes/riders are the fastest through the twisties versus a straight line. Some riders are quick at both but I see a lot of the straight line jockeys drop anchor everytime they approach a curve (I do prefer they drop anchor rather than crash). It does turn out to be a humbling experience for them. Usually the squared off tires with fresh sidewalls and worn centers are a sign. My objective ... wear down the sidewalls before the center wears out; or at least have them wear out at the same time. The only purpose for a straight section of road is to connect two corners. The shorter the straight the better.Blaine wrote:why do I imagine you're only fast in a straight line?

wow some of these comments are harsh
seeing as how we all moreless like speed or we wouldnt be on this forum....no trashing a kawi 12r allowed here
HOWEVER
To all you hayabusas and 12r's.....DONT tackle a well ridden fzr1000 when the road bends
I think I ride prolly worse than I imagine myself to be.....however at the local track days where I was behind (purposely lol) several hayabusas.....It was VERY entertaining to say the least.
But its not a fair conquest.
The 12r and busas have it in the straight line. Thats why they evolved....for outright speed supremacy and bragging rights.
The FZR1000 won BEST SPORT BIKE 6 years running in some fashion or another. One of the reasons was it did what all the other bikes couldnt do. It lent itself to straight line AND followed the road when it turned.
Most roads I have seen tend to bend at some point....otherwise us east coaster get wet.
to be honest....it is likley MUCH easier to make a fzr1000 go faster than it is to take a turkey and make it lean like the millenium falcon
sigh....I love my fzr1000 and MANY of us on the board could likely have any modern sport bike available today (with financing available to even the paperboy) - but we chose the ALL MIGHTY FZR1000 for a reason

I agree with Djalbin, it IS the rider that makes a difference, even though my Fizzer is stretched 6" over and I lost some cornering ability, I can still throw her into high speed curves and pass others that arent as skilled at turning (or maybe it is cause I am crazy)...
I LOVE straight line speed, corners used to scare me, until I figured if I go off, I go off. If we are gonna go out and run corners alot, I take the Katana (Kan O Tuna, but she is still a fun bike), if we are gonna go out and take the straight shots, the Fizzer is the way to do it...
I wish I could wear the sidewalls out like I do the center, but there just arent enough good curves here...

This is almost humorous
I thought my FZR was pretty fast in the corners. I could hang with a friends RC51, couple other bikes.
I bought a new R1.....These bikes are 10 years apart. and my FZR is a 95
The R bike will spank the FZR ANYWHERE except off the line.
End of conversation
I ride with a couple of Busa's and two ZX14's. Don't even delude yourselves into thinking you are even on the same planet.
The R1 changes dirrection so much faster and with so much less effort it is just amazing
I can get into a given corner harder, brake later and get off the brakes earlier than the FZR. I can get on the gas sooner and harder than on the FZR.
I would be willing to say that the R bike is a couple seconds quicker a lap at any track
There is really no comparison
The FZR is a great bike and I love mine. But it is an 11 year old bike and technology has marched on.

He he sorry guys.. I'm not here to throw cannon balls at any bike, but I new that one would stir the pot alittle.... 96volts Is my brother, and he's ridding my first bike that I sold him a few years back and I loved it to bits, I still love the bike. But I don't know how many of you have ridden a 12r but it's one hellofa bike in the corners to . And you are all right in saying that it has to do with the rider...I saw Fast Freddy destroy an R1 on a track with a 12r by 3sec at the track a few years back, and the rider on the R1 was no amature eather. And Yamaweezle you must have one fast R1, welcome to the 200mph club...

I rode down to Oregon a couple of weeks ago. One of the guys I went with is a neighbor of mine with a ZX14
On the way back, out in the middle of nowhere, we kind of get sucked into a slow roll on with Mike. at about 150 he decides to get with it and up the pace a bit. I dropped two gears on my R1 at a buck and a half and that big Kawi just walked away.
Wave Buh Bye.....

Ya dragracer, I had a friend that had that problem to.. I almost bought a 14 but I thought I'd wait and see some numbers first... sofar I'm dissapointed and so are alot of the ZX12 owners, The bike is not running the numbers that we all wanted to see. My 12r right now is only 5hp less than the 14.. If you are ever riding with your buddy again try running him in the first 3 gears, You should pull him by 3 or 4 bikes, but come 4th gear he's going to freight train you... The 14 has a crappy low to mid range and the liter bike's still have it's number I think.

There is a zx14 here that runs at the local dragstrip often, he has whittled it down to 9.8 1/4's (stock swingarm with 200lb rider). There is also a zx12 that runs 9.6 1/4's (160lb rider), but he has a 3-6 adjustable arm on the back (set at 4 1/2"), it is impressive to see and I wish the Fizzer would go that fast, maybe next year I can shatter into the 9's after some motor work this winter and maybe a 50hp shot of nitrous...

Wicked--- those are some pretty respectible numbers for those guys in there weight class, Though I love to see bikes like the FZ stomp on newer bikes, even if they have work done. Like dragracer said there's 10 years diffrence in tec. so alittle mod here or there I think should be a must. Thats if you want to go that way...At the track I think it's got a lot to do with who's got the guts to let that clutch out at 6500 rpm's... My short time's sucked....

I wasn't going to say anything about the thread because something in me said "I wonder if this guy knows Ahren?"ZX12r wrote:... 96volts Is my brother, and he's ridding my first bike that I sold him a few years back and I loved it to bits, I still love the bike.

i got my exup for cheap, it goes very fast for very cheap. infact i took the fairing of and changed the gearing to get away from it only being usefull above 120 mph
I have the rear suspention soft so i can get great drive out of corners resultantly it is a little twitchy (could be renthals, or raised rear or dropped front) on long sweepers
i can keep most bikes honest on a real road. but most importantly i find it impossible to spot the differance in the size of grin we have at the end of the journy
if i wanted pub bragging rights i would choose a dull sport and start quoteing someone elses achivements at them
the bike is you and it . there and then.
