wow - insulating this house is much more work than I expected
About 80% done - and I been up in the 3rd floor
I also never really estimated insulating costs - and its more than one might guess. So far about $1500 just for the 3rd floor loft. And at 25 rafters each side and 16 feet long...so 800 feet of itchy stuff. And that doesnt include pain and suffering of stapling the rafter chute vents in each rafter channel to meet code requirements. Tedious work.
Oh...and the vapor barrier on all exterior walls is also code requirement. What a pain.
I'd say total insulating costs will be near 5k.

done with insulating...
now to some odds and ends with electrical and plumbing
on the bright side...I was able to get 5 guys to my house on sat a.m. 7am and move my big rain catcher (spa)
and within a few hours of putting it in place I ran a 240V/50amp gfci using 6/3 (50 feet) to the tub to see it run!
it works...and I invited my two sisters over the next day to be the first to enjoy it...
For the hot tub base...I dug out 8 inches below the retaining wall blocks I laid down...
dropped 4 mil black plastic for weed control
laid down 1" rigid foam insulation over the plastic for winter thermal barrier
then dropped 3-4 inches of 1/2" crushed stone and leveled it
The hot tub heated to 100 degress in about 7 hours. I have to now decide on what chemicals to use...since once you decide your suppose to stick to it because it coats the plumbing and you dont want things to react with eachother...
my choices are I guess...chlorine, bromine, or natural stuff
dont know yet ...searching the web for this info

Getting bathroom tiling quotes - labor only as I have the material.
Bathroom is about 9x7 and quotes for installing the floor and 3/4 up the walls is around $900. I think thats a bit pricey - maybe I will just do myself. I have no worries with me doing the floor - I dont that stuff before and its easy. The walls...well they aint flat!....so a bit more challenging for me to defy neutons law.

wow I'm sick of spending money!
I just ordered the remiander of my chimney pipes for the wood burning stove.
For anyone considering pellet vs wood maybe you get a kick out of this.
I bought a pellet stove and wood stove last year. Within hours I had the pellet stove working with the piping kit through my basement window (fit nicely actually but not permamnent...not code approved)
Wood stove...hmmm well it never got used...why ? Still paying for pipes. Last year I bought enough 'stove' pipe to go from stove up to ceiling. The other day I ordered the remaining pieces.
Cost ?
Pellet stove pipes...$200 kit for piping
Wood stove pipes...total so far about $2000
This doesnt include labor to cut through my roof for the pipe and flashing to exit.
No doubt a wood burning stove has more charm than a pellet stove...but has 10 times the cost associated with installation.
I can also say the 2000 is a great deal compared to buying from the local store. I sourced it all online thru ebay seller mychimneystore or somehting...free shipping and way discounted pieces compared to the local chimney store I got a few pieces from last year.
