because of the costs of developing new and better technology, that's
the way it's gotta be, otherwise we end up restricting MotoGP
innovations more and more till they are at the level of
the local club meet.
If Ilmor and KR and so on want to be competitive on a
lower budget then they need to enter a more
standardised series like WSBK or WSS. Look at the results Ten Kate
have got and they're 'just' a dealer team...
Mind you, they'd all be brilliant MotoGP teams if more people
watched MotoGP! Yes, that's right, if they could get more sponsorship
money then they'd probably be fine.
I do like the technological innovations from MotoGP also. Yes, street tyres
have improved radically but also look at the '08 R1, it has slipper clutch
and variable intake trumpets, and fly-by-wire, straight off Rossi's 03 bike,
plus next model (09) we'll get the crossplane crankshaft too.
On top of that we get unnoticeable "tweaks" learned in racing such as
better steering head offsets and swingarm pivot point positioning.

Well, at least some riders will get those benefits. All I can afford
is the cool tyres for my old FZR.

You know, one of my primary considerations when I chose
this bike was a good forum and 17" tyre sizes, I was so sick of
not being able to buy decent tyres for my previous bike.
