As much as I am sad that smaller firms can't compete in MotoGP,
because of the costs of developing new and better technology, that's
the way it's gotta be, otherwise we end up restricting MotoGP
innovations more and more till they are at the level of
the local club meet.
If Ilmor and KR and so on want to be competitive on a
lower budget then they need to enter a more
standardised series like WSBK or WSS. Look at the results Ten Kate
have got and they're 'just' a dealer team...
Mind you, they'd all be brilliant MotoGP teams if more people
watched MotoGP! Yes, that's right, if they could get more sponsorship
money then they'd probably be fine.
I do like the technological innovations from MotoGP also. Yes, street tyres
have improved radically but also look at the '08 R1, it has slipper clutch
and variable intake trumpets, and fly-by-wire, straight off Rossi's 03 bike,
plus next model (09) we'll get the crossplane crankshaft too.
On top of that we get unnoticeable "tweaks" learned in racing such as
better steering head offsets and swingarm pivot point positioning.
Well, at least some riders will get those benefits. All I can afford
is the cool tyres for my old FZR.
You know, one of my primary considerations when I chose
this bike was a good forum and 17" tyre sizes, I was so sick of
not being able to buy decent tyres for my previous bike.

Following the first round of Moto gp testing on spec tyers, who would have guest it
Stoner, Rossi, Pedrosa................then a very close pack containing everyone except Tosland, who was 2.5 sec a lap slower than his team mate, oh dear!!
So there you have it, Friday 13th Feb 2009, Stoner, Rossi, Pedrosa, not in that order, but 1,2,3...........then a close pack containing every one else
Go Casey

Motorcycling, it's a participation sport!!
Maybe thats because Toseland suffered a 125mph highside on the first day...............Apologies for the poor quality scan, but it doesn't seem to be online anywhere.stan wrote:Following the first round of Moto gp testing on spec tyers, who would have guest it

Should be interesting for sure. Sounds like Tosland is putting himself under undue pressure. I'll bet he is last again. I reckon Edwards is up for a good year, probably his last. Would be good to see him win a race. Wish our newspapers ran 8 page moto gp specials...lol.
Wondering... which free to air channels in the UK cover the road racing series, ie: WSBK BSBK Moto-gp and the street racing series ie: IOM North west etc? I would like to look at getting free to air Satellite.

The scan is from Motorcycle news, its a motorcycling weekly. They usually have at least 8 pages dedicated to road race stories and at this time of year they're not much going on so a motogp test fills it nicely.spook wrote:Should be interesting for sure. As far as the free to air channels go, The bbc are covering all the motogp rounds so and I think ITV are covering BSB. As far as I'm aware only eurosport are showing WSBK, although i read somewhere that you can view this on the wsbk website?

i wonder how Tosland feels when he sees a pic like that, and how Yamaha feel about a hand built, prototype bike being upside down with the rider 4 foot above it??? OUCH
perhaps the reason he had such a big off was he was pushing to get up the time sheet??
I like the MCN web page, they have a good wrap of all forms of road racing

thanks for the heads up owdamer. Will look into it. I have satellite foxtel, but I'm not that happy about the $1000 a year It costs me to watch the supers when there is potentially so much more on offer.
The main thing is that the ball is rolling again... Thank God (the motorcycling one)... The anticipation is unbearable. Stan and I are heading to the 1st round of the supers in two weeks time at the Island, should be an awesome weekend!
If the team have any sense of humour they will write a message to James on the belly pan underside in case he finds hinself there again. Hopefully the only way he can enjoy the potential future joke is viewing it with a mirror!
There is no doubt about his talent, he just needs to look within, and allow the superman within to emerge naturally. Was it Tosland wearing the flag like a cape a while ago?
Hmmmmm..

I imagine yamaha were thinking "oh no, not this again". MCN are reporting that the damage to JT's bike is being estimated at £200,000.stan wrote:i wonder how Tosland feels when he sees a pic like that, and how Yamaha feel about a hand built, prototype bike being upside down with the rider 4 foot above it??? At a time when they are trying to cut costs thats the last thing you need. One of the hazards of racing I guess. If they go for the one bike per rider ruling I wonder what they do in the event of similar crashes?
JT was certainly pushing when he crashed. He was running a different compound to his earlier laps and he was .5 up at the first split.

Don't get me wrong, I hate to see anyone struggling, (Hmmm, maybe Max Biaggi) and I personally are a Tosland fan... Hell, I have a British passport I have an interview from after the prang, sums it pretty well up. I'll see if I can scan it.

Oh dear, it looks like Marco Melandri really has lost his touch and it
wasn't just the Ducati being difficult that made his results so atrocious
last year.
Chris Vermuelen, Loris, and the Suzuki, seem to have a head-start on
development, are they using a bike with a lot of the old stuff that
will be superseded and overtaken during the year?
Nicky Hayden seems to have adjusted to the Ducati reasonably well
so far, that's great news because he's a nice bloke and I thought he
didn't get a fair go with Honda.
I'm going to stick my neck out and say, for the year,
1 Rossi, 2 Stoner, 3 Lorenzo
Next 3: Hayden, Dovizioso, Pedrosa in no particular order
I guess we will see...

These are scans from Australian Motorcycle News Vol58 No16 18Feb-3Mar 2009. I'm sure I'm breaching copyright, somehow, though they have been correctly referenced
Keep in mind Cam that Melandri is on a unsupported bike. As Stan says, to avoid a 40 million dollar fine. What chance to you think he really has?

No doubt..... Jokes aside, I'm sure he is man enough to overcome the incident?owdamer wrote:I guess that highside at the last test destroyed more than just his bike.

runner up is 1st looser is it not? Work it out from there? 1st looser 2nd looser etc....
There can only be one winner. (Casey)
Meladari is not even a privateer... He is the end result of a very cynical mathematical equation. The economic downturn (lull), really, has little to do with economics, more so the provision of an excuse for companies to redirect their resources, disperse staff, and pay themselves (the executives) bonuses for being so efficient....
If Kawasaki had any dignity, they would have just paid the fine and withdrawn gracefully.....paid out their riders and left everyone's reputation in tact? But poor old Melandri, already has a target drawn on him, and will nicely take responsibility for Kawasakis' failure to do anything this year. It really is a disgrace. They (Kawasaki) are quite unashamedly investing in WSBK. In some ways you can't blame them...
The maths probably goes something like this.
40 mill - 35 mill saved= Marco and team. Leaving Marco the scapegoat, however well he fits the profile. Cheers.
