Some recent Pics

Post by TG1992FZR1000 »

Took a few shots before I put my new rotors on, still have to get the front fender on so these are the before shots. Rotors are 1.1LBS. lighter each compared to the stockers. Took the Yamaha sticker off the front fairing and added the new Yamaha Emblems you see on new bikes. painted the inner fairing black too.

Got the bike up on stands in the basement for the winter. Much better working downstairs than outside in the 10F degree garage!

Will the gold spots bolt straight on? or will they need and adapter plate?

They bolt straight on from what I have seen here. I think there are some post and pics on it. I will look.

yeah, those calipers (as well as the blue spots) use the standard but wacky yamaha 100mm mount spacing. since the 1000 bike's fork bottoms are slightly different from the yzf750, you should be able to bolt right on without having to grind away some of the mount. the 1000 fork bottoms have that "split" between the mounting points, whereas the 750 is one solid cast piece of aluminum.

if you do have to take away any material it will be very little.

i would tell you to swap master cylinders as well, but since the 1000 uses 4 pot calipers you shouldn't have to. as long as the 1000's master matches the r1/r6.

bike looks nice!

I plan on doing the master cylinder and lever. apparently from what I have read it can cause issues mixing parts even though it all bolts together.

I wasn't sure about the interchange-ability with the FZR and the USD forks. I know the Ace (and Cat) blue spots and R1 Gold spots are identical spacing but have a different banjo orientation, and the Ace has an external link pipe that was eliminated on further iterations. The Gold and silver pots also have a much better piston coating than all the blues allowing for less stiction and less maintenance worries. It should be pretty snazzy when done.

well, i wouldn't worry too much about the master cylinder swap. i am sure your stock master is a nissin unit, and i know the r1/r6 masters are also nissin. the problem the yzf750 riders had when swapping to the newer four pot calipers is that the stock 750 master is 5/8" in diameter for the stock 6 piston calipers. the r1/r6 uses a 14mm diameter master. since your bike came with four pots as stock, i'll bet the master is 14mm.

not trying to tell you not to do it, just something to check if you didn't want to spend the extra few dollars on the master cylinder. be sure to get some decent pads and some nice braided lines to match your new rotors, though!
