My latest Bimbo
Here's a picture of my latest Bimota.
It's a 1990 YB8 exup, running the 89 FZR1000 engine, and a lot of the FZR1000 components, such as engine, carbs, loom, cdi, radiator, gauges, ignition switch etc. So a close relative...
This one is sold, but I'm doing a pre delivery cleanup and inspection. More pics to come. lol.

Yes Yes I know, I said, I'm building a project YZF1070
Basement is done now, 850 finished and gone...
Gotta get the new siding up on the house.
Fixing the FZ1 up, cleaning up garage and then I might even begin

Yeah, I read that, I was just sure Bimota had made a model with an FZR engine and that they also fuel injected it. YB9, 10 or 11?Ralph wrote:1989 exup, this one is carbed.
Looks like it was an even more rare rendition of a bimota bike, the tartuato or something like that as right up until the 11, they were still using 38mm mikunis

The YB4EI (750) the YB6EI (black engined 1000 pictured) the Tuatara a slightly different YB6EI (also black engined 1000) YB8Furano (Exup engined 1000)
All basically the same bike (frame with variations in running gear)

Re: My latest Bimbo
While on face value it looked okay, it was in fact bloody dirty. I don't think the fairings have been off it ever!
With these and any other bike I think it is better to strip it down so you know what you are dealing with. So here we are with everything clean polished, greased etc:
And time to put it together:

Re: My latest Bimbo
Whist I've got this one under restoration, I decided to build another two.
Both are likely to be race bikes. This one is my 'Golden Child' lol. For obvious reasons. The frame has been modified behind the carbs to accommodate 41mm FCR's. It will be equipped with Ohlins front and rear.
The other is a run of the mill YB8

Speaking of Bimbos... Check out this rooster
It's a roller I purchase off a mate. I'm just going to have to stop at some stage. Stop what? lol.

Spook, your bikes are looking really nice. Too bad Melbourne is so far away from Tucson ... I would give you my bike for a refresh.

Truth is i have so many projects on the go that it is difficult having the focus to stay on one.
I can walk from one end of the shed to the other, with good intentions, become distracted, and have started on something completely different...
The shed is 24 meters long, and i know I need to work on my concentration!
Here is a photo of my latest distraction. The motor was completely rebuilt in 1989, and it sat in storage since. Plus a couple of years in the weather. it started and run with little trouble. A 6 cylinder 2 stroke. I can tell you it makes all the right noises and smells. And I'm in love

Re: My latest Bimbo
I remember the 1st time I saw a Bimota, it was a brand new YB10 Dieci (FZR1000 motor) and I was just in awe at the RAW CRAFTMANSHIP...PURE ART!!!
The owner lived in my area and I bumped into him several times...he had talked about selling it but I told him to keep it as BIMOTA's are unicorns!

Damn right!YEC_YZF750SP wrote:I remember the 1st time I saw a Bimota, it was a brand new YB10 Dieci (FZR1000 motor) and I was just in awe at the RAW CRAFTMANSHIP...PURE ART!!!
After a year of not being so well, (back surgery, blood-clots, recurring blood-clots, staph infection, lung scaring..) I'm finally getting back on track, and have found some energy. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Let's hope it isn't 'those' lights, or an oncoming train.
I've made some progress on the Bimota YB8, It is now running, and the seat unit will be going on tonight. I just have to change the front subframe, because the one on it is not correct, and chuck the fairings on, and it can go to it's new (very patient buyers home).
Balancing the carbs on the YB's is virtually impossible, because the beam behind the carbs blocks access to the adjustment screws.
In the past I would just used a Yamaha FZR1000 or the like, but didn't have one here atm. I can't recommend the Morgan Carbtune 2 carb balancing tool highly enough. It is a sensationally thought out and engineered product.
https://www.carbtune.com/
So an industrial vacuum cleaner some plumbing fittings and and radiator hose. The industrial vacuum only just pulled enough volume for this to work, however, I intend to use a mains power weed blower in reverse to solve the problem.
I know this system will not take into account an engine that has wildly differing compression, but in this case with a healthy engine with compression within 5 psi it achieved the goal, and the motor runs sweet!
Cheers!
