well done boys,

I would love to visit Indy, but if i had to travel half way around the world to watch a GP, it problly wouldn't be at Indy

Is the course the same as the F1 track, it looks a little different

We watch with interest

Here's the proposed layout...

I'm assuming everybody wants general admission? You'll need a credit card to apply, but you won't be charged until a few months before the race. Guess there really isn't a huge rush, but I'd still like to order soon. I didn't realize that there is general seating in the infield.

They don't have any pit-pass options right now. Doubt they'd let everybody down there for free, but who knows. May simply be something they'll add down the road.

I'll make sure to show you guys some proper Hoosier hospitality. Not that I'm really sure what Hoosier hospitality is :hi Ya'll know I'm up by South Bend, and Indy is a straight shot south from here. Around a 3 hour commute. Anybody coming through this way is welcome to stop on by for a pit stop. They are going to allow camping starting on Thursday so until it gets closer I can't tell you if I'll head down then or wait til Friday.
It also looks like the 125's and 250's will be there as well. That's the main reason I want to go!!!!!
I have to say I'm much happier to see the 125cc and 250cc classes running at Indy instead of AMA. :banana

***IMPORTANT***

I am working on a possible deal for a group buy on tickets. There are a few perks to groups of 20 or more. I am currently finding out more details and information about this. If you are/were planning on applying for a ticket please contact me first via PM. The buy will be for general admission tickets. Those are going for $75 each. There is no discount on a group buy, just some perks (details to come).

Basically the group buy works like this - I commit to 20 tickets. They will call in October to confirm the number of tickets needed. If I can "sell" 20 tickets I will make the group purchase and you will make the payment through me.

This is all up in the air right now. You can still apply individually and cancel later if you want in on the group buy. I'll post more info as it becomes available. I'd like to get a little bit of a feeling as to how many of you are serious about going and to see if this group buy would work.

Edit: Pit passes will be coming, but not for awhile. They are working out details on that as well. As far as I know those will have to be bought on your own. No info if a group gets any perks on that or not.

I'll go ahead and let the cat out of the bag....keep in mind that this is "as of right now" and could be subject to change, but one of the perks for doing a group buy is that we will get to do a lap at the track. Yes, a lap on the bike around the Indianapolis Speedway. Before you get visions of sugar plums and knee dragging dancing through your head, it will be a low speed ride like they do at Laguna. The fact remains that you can say you went around the same track that Rossi did and will be a good story for years to come.

Other perks as of now:

a) VIP parking in the infield for bikes. This eliminates the need to buy a seperate parking permit (which is $20). This is good for all 3 days.
b) 10% discount on any items bought at the museum giftshop.
c) Banner advertising on the Jumobtrons throughout the weekend recognizing our group.

Talking to the guy today he said they are still working on a lot of things such as pit passes and such. Good thing is that being in a group buy will keep us updated quicker (hopefully). Also, if the group buy falls through do not worry, you will not be out of a ticket. You'll still be able to get one but we'll lose out on the perks is all. I have already made a reservation for the buy. If we end up needing more tickets depending on the response I can add to it. I will update this thread as more info becomes available.

in the lead up to the Australian GP, we have the Barry Sheene mormorial ride,

starts off down the coast and covers about 300km, and ends in a lap or two of the island circuit. There was over 500 bikes that took part last year, the line of bike almost covered the complete length of the track.

Last year the riders were waved over the finish line by Barry's wife, who still lives in OZ.

If you can get the opportunity to go for a ride around Indy , TAKE IT.

what a great story to tell, you rode Indy!!!

What's it cost for a track day down there, Haunter? I'm wondering if they'll have some sort of special event cause of GP. May want to call them and make a reservation now...lol. I don't know if I'll be able to afford it or not, but it's a long way away. I'll start putting up $5 every week from here on out :cool

no idea honestly.

Has to be less than other places though, everytime I see a day there advertised its cheaper than BHF and Autobahn.

Only place I see cheaper trackdays is up at Grattan but thats a really long haul from Indy

EDIT: I emailed them!

Thank you for your inquiry. That Friday-Sunday, and almost all weekends, are spoken for in 2008, as the groups that currently rent the track are guaranteed the same dates for the following years. However, we do have the Wednesday or Thursday available during that week.

The cost for a day at Putnam Park currently is $7,951.00, and includes track time from 9am-5pm, 2 ambulances staffed with EMTs, 5 corner workers plus one for pit-out, radios, a gate person for waiver signing, and a $3 million liability and $5k A D & D insurance policy through K & K Insurance.

Please call for more information.

Regards,

Christopher S. Diasio

Ummm.....I could eat ramen for the next two years and still won't be able to afford that :( Let alone the cost of a new set of tires to be able to ride home and to spend any money at GP. Have enough money to put into the FZR as it is. Man...what a bummer :hissy

I'm in.

Try and work on those pit passes--for me walking the pits is just as much fun as the races.

I should probably book a room now.
