what is it about your tank bag that you love?

What is it that pisses you off? What feature would you add that you can't find on any product currently offered?

This is a shameless post meant to pick your brain for possible design suggestions for my product line. Give freely, you never know, maybe you'll have one of my bags on your tank someday. Input during the design phase, can you ask for more?

_____________________________________________
Listen Pal, that is not YOUR lane, it's the fast lane.

Goin' to da GP..

Slack? ok... the thing that really pisses me off on my tankbag is that while it is large enaugh (zipper in middle and covers whole tank area), its not made for an sportsbike!!!
two summers ago i did the ss1000 ironbuttride and i was completely worn out at my neck at the end. O how i wished that the tank bag would have had an moulded top, so that i could have had my head tucked lower... a small "hole" for my chin. thats it.
and a smaller bag is not allways an option. and definetly no backpacks for a long trip.

Re: Suggestions
How about an internal mount for cameras? and an opening for a lens? I mean your asking for ideas, right? Oh wait, you probably want practical ideas. I'll get back to you on that.

I have a very old Eclispe tank bag. The one that was all the rave about 15 years ago. Just the standard one. It has been an awesome bag, but it is time to move on. It has a 3-point mounting harness, "Detachable Waterproof" (very important to me) map pocket on top. one large main compartment 2 smaller side pockets and a tiny rear detachable pocket. I never use it and it isn't on there. Holds a ton of stuff and has lasted 15 years and 4 bikes. It has been good to me.

I'd like to get a magnetic, smallish, but expandable tank bag. Something similar to, if not this.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...
There are some who call me........Tim?
Director of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
1994 FZR 1000

Re: Suggestions
the bag that tim pointed to nelson rigg he had recommended for me to try a whhile back. It is durable - I am able to sneak my video camera in the top and not announce to the local gun wielding authority.

nelso rigg ships directly from their factory - they never charged me any shipping ? and I'm 2000 miles away

they also warrant their bag for life

PS the one I got is magnetic - I NEVER thught I would get a magnetic one. that was till I used one. Never again goin back to straps. There are those that say beware magnetic source around ignition when running ? maybe...i never had any issues - they also recommend not leaving a magnetic bag attached to the tank for long periods - and the mags are all covered...no chance of scratching

-John
95 FZR1000
90 FZR1000
90 FZR1040

Re: tank bags
Tim pretty much got me sold on Nelson Rigg as well because of their warranty and quality.

I do like this one from Tour Master. It's a mini-bag, but has a lot of good features. Plus I like the carry handle that it has. Most bags have shoulder straps to lug them around, but I like the handle also.

Nate - 87 FZR1000

Have you seen my fairing? Re: tank bags
I have an use a Marsee (google em up) magnetic bag. I got one for my thumper and it was my first magnetic bag...Never moved on the thumper. So I started using it on the GS750. never moved, so I started using is on the FZR and I finaly wore it out after about 60 thousand miles, so AI bought another one only a bit larger. Nice quality and very waterproof.
I've seen what Sean is up to and it is VERY cool. You guys are gonna want one!
Jim<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Cheers.gif ALT=":cheers">

Re: tank bags
One tidbit to think of during design, why not expand in a dimension other than verticle? I don't use an expandable bag because of the line of fire from the fairng will tear your head off and decrease the enjoyment of the ride. I think that I will look at this Neslon bag as a possible replacement for my Joe Rocket bag which is actually quite usefull. It came with a very usefull top piece that is a backpack( ) that actually makes a great tail bag attached to the saddle bags I run.

Re: tank bags
I have a Tour Master (Cortech Series) tank bag. It's a different model than the one in Nate's picture. I like it real well.
Don

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... djalbin at: 3/17/05 6:37 pm

Re: tank bags
I should have something that interests you guys in a few months. Innovative. I've had a ton of suggestions, but I always like to ask because everyone seems to have a different vision of what a good tank bag would do.

Imagine a bag that's pretty simple. Has the ability for you to organize it on the inside by moving panels about. One that doesn't ever touch your precious tank paint.

I won't give any details on the not touching the paint part so don't ask but things like a porthole for headphones, or a power connector, a removable map pocket (who uses these) which can be replaced with a utility cover that holds things like glasses, and a radar detector or even a GPS are included in the design.

Imagine a large bag that does not in any way interfere with either your steering, or your view of the instruments. That'll get you part of the way.
_____________________________________________
Listen Pal, that is not YOUR lane, it's the fast lane.

Goin' to da GP..

Slack? There'll be no slack here!

Re: tank bags
When I have a map or directions, I use my map pocket.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...
There are some who call me........Tim?
Director of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
1994 FZR 1000
