factory pro shift kit and flo-commander . . .

Post by NorCalRyda »

ive tried to search the archives but couldnt find anything about these products. ive seen the Factory Pro shift kit for sale on ebay before but didnt know what the hell it was for. it just looks like a gasket, a spring, a washer, and a bolt. ive also seen this thing called a "Flo-Commander" on ebay and once again i dont know what the hell this is for. can someone explain the uses and advantages (if any) to me. thanks - tone<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ananna.gif ALT=":banana">

I've been wondering about the flo-commander for a while now, it's advertised for about $139 for the main and the same for the pilot circuit plus the remote adjuster for $150 and the mounting kit, filter kit, diffuser, bla, bla, bla... for that amount of money I want to hear from someone who has used the setup before. Anyone here?
www.flo-commander.com

We did have quite a thread on the flow commander at one stage. However the search engine here sux and there is talk of some lost threads after the hacking. I cant quite remember the outcome of the discussion but I do recall looking at the site thinking hmm.....that could work.

Not sure if one of our more technically adept members promptly de-bunked the theory though.
Clint.

'87 FZR1000T
gen·e·sis (jen-i-sis)n. pl.:The coming into being of something; the origin.

The Factory Pro is a roller for the shifter detent and offers a very real improvment in shifting feel, and makes the tranny shift WAY more positively.

The Flo Commander is an attemt to get your money to become seperated from your wallet.....

Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... I've been running around with the factory pro shift kit for about 13 years and it makes the shifter a bit notchier and forces you to shift more completely. Saves wear and tear on the dogs and it's not cumbersome, just more positive feel in the shifter.

If you have a Yam shop manual, then open to the page where during motor assembly the shifter and oil pump are being installed. If you look at the shift drum, you'll notice the detent arm which has a torsion spring and a roller that rides on the pins of the shift drum detent cam. That torsion spring loads the detent arm against the shift drum and is really the only component that you are changing, besides gaskets. The oil pump is in the way, so it needs to be pulled out during this operation. There is a very high chance that during your struggle with the installing the new spring/detent arm back in its respectful place, it will get away from you and fall into the oil pan, so I suspect that is why they recommend you drop the pan. Don't be afraid to do this, it's quite simple really.

<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... iker_3.gif ALT=":riding">

P.S.

I don't have an Exup, so I can be ignorant to some of the minor changes that occured after '88. I believe that it was posted by some that the exup oil pump is a two stage pump to run the oil cooler, so you will probably need to disconnect plumbing from the pump prior to removing it.
