I had that black thingy in my carbs too.

After an hour of head scratching without any real explanation, i cleaned it all up and put it back together.
Go figure.

A couple of pictures. They look pretty similar. :?: First two are from yzf750, others fzr 1k. You could just buy gears for your old 5-speed gearbox. It would be cheaper
