Gidday,
Was riding over to a mates place yesterday on the motorway, travelling in the inside lane with plenty of room between me and the car in front, when a car in the outside lane decided they had better take the offramp and cut across the lane and took the car in front of me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The car doing the idiot impression carving up the lanes, clipped the car in front of me going into a spin and backing it into the barrier on the off ramp, unfortunatley, the car that was in front of me got pushed off line and went from 80kph to 0 in 3 meters when it hit the corner of the off ramp...
As I had good following distance I had plenty of time to hit the brakes and ride around the carnage.
I didn't stop as I would have been in a dangerous position my self and I didn't have my cell phone on me, plus there were plenty of vehicles right behind me to assist.
If the driver of the car in front of me that hit the barrier lived - I will be suprised...
I've learnt over the years to leave the fast riding to the track and ride more responsibly on the road, please consider doing the same as there are far too many of us dying on the roads
It could have easily have been me taken out by that moron if I had been crowding the car in front so...
Be carefull out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

Consider a phone call to the cops to let them know you were a witness. I don't know if you'll get in trouble for not stopping. Make sure you say you would have been in grave danger if you did, and check your local laws. Our laws state that you only must stop if you were involved in the collision or it was due to your presence, not required to stop if just a witness. Your rules may be different. If the driver of the car in front of me that hit the barrier lived - I will be suprised...
Making the call may will ease your mind a bit, and may make all the difference to the financial and legal outcomes of the event for the innocent person.

Gidday,
If your involved in an accident here, then your leagally bound to stop, in this case I was not actually involved- very nearly, but not this time.
Yep, maybe a quick call to the policse is in order here.
Strangley, having seen so many bikes going down on the track around me while racing resulted in me being very calm, and able to take measured action to avoid the carnage.
Cheers

It's a saturday morning, returning home on a back road,
wearing a re-enforced denim jacket with a florecent
saftey vest.
As I crest a hill doing a relatively modest 50-60mph,
(90-105 kph) not dressed or in a blitzing mindset, I notice a large
furnichure delivery cube van stopped and slowly turning in
from the opposing single lane, in the classic left turn, into
the path of the hapless motorcyclist & often usually fatal incident.
My first reaction was to brake hard, scrubbing off about 30mph,
thinking it's going to be close, but this will give this guy a chance
to "see me" and react accordingly.
He apparently dosn't "see me" or otherwize react and keeps
on turning, still braking, I realise I simply can't stop at this point.
I'm faced with the very real prospect of an imminent collision
that would likely send me flying through his passenger side window,
probably killing me, and doing him no good either.
I released the brakes, and somehow managed to steer around the
truck, missing by mere inches. By then he had only left me about 2 inches of pavement left to my right.
I sailed passed, astonished and not beileving # 1 just how close I came,
second, that apparently nothing hit, not even a scratch.
My tradjectory however unavoidably, and being the far more preferable
option under the circumstances had taken me off the paved shoulder,
onto the lawn of the intended recipient of the delivery.
By then the bike is clearly not impressed by my riding and is
a violent head shake, not a full blown tank slapper mind you,
but my legs are flailing off the pegs, and I recall thinking, Oh no I don't want to go down."
With rough ground ahead, then a drop into a culvert, Somehow, I managed to get the bike back onto the pavement and settled down in a matter of brief seconds. Coming to a stop, pulling the clutch
and controlled braking, leaving the bike in gear.
I left the bike parked on the side of the road and made my way back
on foot several hundered feet to confront the driver.
He sees me this time, and asks "are you ok ?"
Being pissed, "no thanks to you, YOU NEARLY F^&%IG KILLED ME !"
"Get your eyes checked !" As I demonstrably removed my own sun glasses as waved them at him."
In hind sight I should have been a little cooler and smarter
in confronting him, but under the circumstances it may have
been forgivable.
It was my birthday, and a fatal collsion would have made for
a nice neat obit, but thank God, not that day.
What's good about it is this, I reacted, and did just about everything
right, my skills and insticts worked, I saved my life, I saved my ass, and even saved the bike.
