Just a very light coat for anti-corrosion purposes. You want all the rotation to occur in the bearings, not for the bearings to rotate on the axles else the axles will get wear grooves in them. However the nut pressure should normally prevent this. That's why its vital to have the correct spacers and bearing widths.

Hey guys,
I just put my shock and rear wheel back on and I greased the crap out of everything with some moly grease (it was what I had in my grease gun). I wiped the excess off of course but I packed the needle bearings with it in the swing arm and in the shock pivots. I recently learned to read and saw the recommendation for lithium grase in a few of those areas in the manual. Do you recommend cleaning it out and using a lithium based gease or can I get away with the moly in those areas? What about the steering head bearings as well? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I've always used molybdenum disulfide Mo2S grease because it is also
good for bearings and lithium grease is very hard to get here.
Never replaced the same bearing twice, so it must work.

Moly is lithium grease, with Moly added.
At least that's what they told me when I worked at Kuwait Petrolium.
John
ps. Moly grease is better for applications where exposed to water as it isn't as 'washable' as just plain old Lithium grease. I think it's got a higher melting point too.

If you're going to take a shot at me let me know so I can duck...!
