A 25-year-old motorcyclist died early Friday morning after he lost control of the bike and flew through the window of a Northeast Side home.
The crash occurred just before 2 a.m. in the 2500 block of North Avenida Orgullo, near North Sabino Canyon and East Tanque Verde roads, said Sgt. Mark Robinson of the Tucson Police Department.
James Winton Thompson IV was in Tucson from Washington state and had gone out drinking with his friends Thursday night, Robinson said.
Thompson eventually returned to a home down the street from the later crash site, Robinson said.
While Thompson was at the home, a friend arrived on a motorcycle he had just bought five days earlier.
Thompson asked the friend if he could sit down on the bike to see how it felt, and the friend agreed, Robinson said.
As the friend went to drop something off inside the home, he heard the motorcycle start up and saw Thompson riding away wearing a helmet left nearby.
Thompson headed down the street, then around, Robinson said.
As Thompson passed the house he was visiting, the owner of the motorcycle noticed the vehicle wobbling and watched as Thompson lost control, driving into the front yard of a nearby home.
Thompson was thrown from the motorcycle and through a bedroom window, Robinson said.
He struck a wall at the opposite side of the room and was killed, he said.
