Ultrasonic Cleaner

Using my 30 lt Ultrasonic Cleaner for the first time in anger. It's a beauty, It is large enough to clean all engine components including crankcases. Here's Jason's ZX9R cases being cleaned, and a sump that has been through. The cases are cleaned in two haves obviously

The best thing is no elbow grease required, and no chemicals, Just water and dishwashing detergent. Dry out parts in the oven afterwards at low heat. And then CRC.

I heat the water to about 50 degrees C, and do bursts of 5 minutes so the transducers are not stressed (over heat). Probably 30 minutes on the crankcase turning as we go. Even the corrosion comes off!

I'll do some before and after photo's on the lower cases.

They're great aren't they! I've got a 10 litre one.

Interesting comment about your washing fluid. I spray the parts with SDoc and leave to soak for a while then add in a capful of heavy aluminium engine degreaser, and then leave them to do the business for 20 minute runs at about 50 to 60 deg C.

I've heard others using the normal fairy liquid washing up soap, so I'll give that a go next time I've got some parts to clean.

Yes they are! Here's a comparison the upper crankcase washed, and the lower unwashed. They were obviously in the same state.

I use a dishwashing liquid called earth first. It's cheap and know to have an alkaline PH. I put a fair bit into mine. Otherwise I would use truck wash. Anything alkaline is fine. Plain water will clean as well, due to the fact it is cavitation within the liquid that does the cleaning. I just figure it can't hurt to chuck some soap in.

Here is the lower after cleaning... You can tell I'm happy about this addition to the shed And only 400 au or so pesos! I can promise you that no scrubbing was involved. The fact that corrosion is actually mitigated is outstanding!

Why are you putting a kawi engine in an M1?

Michael, it's a 1994 Kawasaki ZX7RR M1, Homologation special. Ex-works Superbike.

What year is the ZX9 motor? Just interested as it took yamaha until it's first R1 iteration to put the cam sprockets on the end of the cams.

Motor is a ZX9R B1 1994, ZX7RR M1 is 94 also.
