melbourne, australia: i got a wave from virtually every bike i saw when riding my zzr250 but as soon as i got the yzf it pretty much stopped (even from similar sport bikes)

what happened?

(1) Two years went by.

(2) Many fascinating and new motorcycles were built and sold within that time.

(3) Riders bought them and joined other forums that (we suppose) supported those models.

(4) Our bikes got two years older and that much further away from the limelight.
(I.E. The smart money buys an FZR1000 now, but it could have been considered frivolous when they were new).

Sorry Tim, it's just not so lively anymore. But that doesn't mean it isn't spicy now and then.............

I'm still not giving up my '94 FZR1000. I'm waiting for it to become one of those rare cherished classic superbikes that cause people to be amazed when they see one. In the interim, I'm going to ride it and enjoy it.

Hello all, Its H here. migrated from FZR250.com (which is a sweet site by the way). here is something for conversation. was at a customers shop today. saw a MASSIVE bike sitting out the back, so i go over and do the casual 360 degree look around. owner comes out. The bike is a Triumph 2300cc fuel injected MONSTER. I ride an FZR250 so this isnt saying much, but his front tyre was as big as my rear tyre (and i have the biggest rear tyre you can fit on a fizz250). anyway, going back to the start of the thread re: harley rider wankers, this guy was cool as and didnt mind a yami rider checking out his trumpy. (which are cooler than harleys anyway). Happy days people!!! and to all the aussies: HAPPY FIRE SEASON!

This last weekend when I rode up/down Mt. Lemmon I noticed all the others bikers waved regardless of the bike they rode. When I got back into town the reception reverted back to the classical "maybe I will and maybe I will not - depends on whether you're one of me". I guess the city riding experience is segregated more and riders associate with others like themselves ... or they're so busy navigating city drivers they don't dare divert their attention off the cagers. I guess in some environments (city) the common bond is the bike you're riding and how you're dressed. In other environments (certain bike routes) the common bond is the ride and nobody discriminates based on the bike or how you're dressed.

I'll have to agree with that assessment. Get out on a good ride, everyone is friendly and waves - will even chat along the side of the road with ya. Get back into town and it's a whole different story.

It's easy to tell the posers from the riders. Poser will have an 02 with less than 3k miles on the clocks. A rider will have an 05 with 17k. That will hold true no matter brand/type of bike.

My friend Chuck just messes with everyone. He has a Bandit 12 and a Road King (missing alot of the underside of the floorboards). When on the Harley, he waves at the sport-bikers and ignores the cruisers. Ahhh the looks he gets, but lots of fun to ride with.
