Real Tassie Devil Country Ride Video

OK - This is not taken on a FZR so I hope you forgive me..

The local Ulysses club branch (if you have not heard if it, it's a club for riders over 50 YO) went for a ride to a mining town in
Western Tasmania and this is real Tas devil country. The last 20 odd minutes of the road is very winding and there is only
one way in and out (unless you want to ride gravel road).

My son Has a Suzuki SV1000 and I was in front on my SV650S. He fitted a VholdR ContourHD video camera. The camera does
excellent quality at 1280 x 760, 30 frames per sec - high definition - and standard resolution 848 x 480 60 frames a second.
Magic to watch in its native .MOV format.

Take the whole 23 minute ride that Rally Tasmania (tarmac Rally) uses for one of its main stages, in 5 short clips.

If you get seasick watching bike vids, this one will do it for you.

What a top video, dave, the awesomeness of Tassie doesn't stop.

I'm really looking forward to going to Tas early next year, lots of windy roads,
for a 2 week bike trip
:banana
Hey, I don't know where to go,
can someone post a picture of a Map of Tassie :P ;)

Glad you liked it. Modesty prevents me from posting that picture you wanted.. :)

My son posted this up on VIMEO in HD http://vimeo.com/8043141 "Hellyer gorge"

However, seeing you are touring, I have compiled this list from a few different posts on the subject that I have put up on another bike forum.

ROADS
Devonport to the Murchison Hwy via Sheffield and Cradle Mt.
It gets better once you leave Sheffield, although a couple of tight corners, then opens out past Moina.
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... 6&z=9&om=1

Somerset to the fingerpost - Part of the southern half (Hellyer gorge) is a Targa and Rally Tas stage. Some tight corners.
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... &z=10&om=1

Savage river road - ride in, turn around and ride back (no other options), good ride. This is a stage of Rally Tasmania.
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... &z=11&om=1

Pieman Rd - 100K of corners, I have not ridden yet but is reported to be excellent ride
EDIT 20th april: I have now ridden this one and is a must do - WARNING best in summer as lots of shaded corners in northern half and
were wet in places from frosts overnight even though weather was fine &sunny for a week before and was 18deg mid afternoon.
Almost no traffic and good quality road.
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... 8&z=9&om=1

Anthony Road, wide, smooth, lots of nice constant radius corners, one surprise corner that's a hairpin in the midlle of the ride. 10/10
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... 8&z=9&om=1

Zeehan to Strahan, nice flowing road. Strahan to Queenstown, not so fast with lots of tight corners.
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... 8&z=9&om=1

Lyell Hwy - Good road by all accounts - Part of Targa
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... 6&z=9&om=1

Poatina road and Lake Hwy - This beats riding the boring Midlands highway
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... &z=12&om=1

Tasman Hwy - Good road by all accounts. I have only ridden the western half of this one
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... 6&z=9&om=1

Lake Leake Rd
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... 5&z=9&om=1

GrassTree Hill road
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&hl=e ... &z=11&om=1

There are other good rides around the state that I have not ridden and other members can help with.

Did a re-edit of the Savage river ride and reloaded on a different host. Strung together about the last 18 minutes with some music.

http://www.vimeo.com/12315650

And if anyone is interested in a bit of offroad riding, my son took a bit of helmet cam video last weekend.
As you can see it is winter here and everything is pretty wet. You might notice that they mostly stay out of the puddles. You
never know how deep they are and can end up going over the bars.

Thanks much for that Dave, although, STOP tantalizing us foreigners with all the beautiful roads of NOT straight driving Canada. There are a few Ok roads in our fair country but....... I'm afraid. No worries about not riding an FZR, seems we accept traffic from all riders, even Honda riders I think.

Cheers and welcome to the board, well, I've never seen any posts from you although it says your a regular poster who joined before me, so welcome from me anyways

Dave used to ride a FZR250 and hung/hangs out on the FZR250.com when it splintered off from us.

OK Michael, Tim, I still come here from time to time and have a bit of a browse around.
At the moment I am administrating FZR250.com, and 2 years ago I thought it would die off due to lack of interest but there has been a resurgence of members. Tends to be mostly learner riders and with the bike being so old now (last produced in 1996) it is more of a help forum.

Tasmania is only a small place of approx 200 miles square and 500,000 population. Lots of winding country roads and some great highways in the more rugged parts.

aren't we all looking for that Spook, then we get married...... LOL

Sweet that you've got the 250 Dave, don't think that machine ever made it to Canada though. I am picking up an FZ400R here, Japanese version, in August which I can't wait for. Reckon I otta at least finish one project before I bring in another first though.
