Rear wheel and engine swaps

I'm probably wrong again :) and the only one who doesn't know... But I've been doing some research in relation to sprocket spacings for different swing arms and engine combination within the FZR-YZF range of bikes.

I started by working out center of wheel to sprocket face for the OW01 (exup) and the FZR750 genesis. I need to confirm the actual measurements with greater accuracy but here is what I have found at a quick look:

FZR750 genesis Center of wheel to sprocket face = 107
OW01 exup Center of wheel to sprocket face = 111.5

I always had believed everything on the Genesis to Exup series will interchange. It will but not exactly!

I put a genesis top case onto an exup bottom. Amazing it drops onto the dowels, of course there major internal differences, but engine mountings etc are the same.

The difference in spacing is due to the Exup having an upgraded output-shaft bearing...it is wider, and spaces the sprocket further out

So if you fit an exup swingarm and wheel to a genesis frame, you really should machine down the sprocket carrier about 4.5mm.

Also, if your thinking of upgrading your thou's 5 speed to a six speed out of a 750, you really should do it from within species, as the exup sprocket output shaft is 4.5mm longer than the Genesis. The clutch cluster looks the same in both, and you could probably change the out put shaft from one to the other, though I'm not sure about that yet.

So to recap on what is probably common knowledge:
If you put an exup swinger and rear wheel into your genesis you need to machine 4.5mm off the sprocket carrier
If you put an Exup motor in your Genesis you need an exup rear wheel or to space the sprocket out 4.5mm
If you change box, as above,

Or just leave it as it probably makes bugger all difference

One day that info is going to save someone's project.
4.5mm out, that's enough to make premature chain wear, noise
vibration etc isn't it?

Or use a ZXR750 rear wheel - perfect fit:)

Good info spook :)

Close Kiwi. My Fz came with a Kwaka wheel on the back, explains perhaps why it never liked r/h corners ;)

There is room for shimming and or machining of sprocket spacer. Just make sure the sprocket nut tightens!

Photos of the cases... amazing the old an new fit together perfectly!

Good info Spook, just one question pertaining the the 750 box.

Is the output shaft from a yzf 750 the same as the exup's? or would I have to switch that over? when changing trans.

Cheers

I would guess the YZF Ace and Exup all share the the same crankcases, though I can't confirm this. Ow01 probably on the list also.

I think it probably goes Black engine = Genesis... Silver engine = exup

You can swap the YZF 750 gearbox straight into the FZR 1000 EXUP and the YZF 1000 Thunderace, the shafts are the same length and they fit straight in.

Spook is talking about the FZR750 and OWO1 gearboxes/crankcases.

I'm not sure yet regarding the OW01 and the EXup, but as far as I'm aware the OW falls into the exup catorgory. I have just purchased an OW box so I will let you know :)

I will over the next week or so firm up the dimensions of the different models, and then list them here. Cheers.

I particularly remember being surprised that exup1k and yzf750 have exactly the same cases down to identical part numbers. From memory the ace cases are compatible but not identical, there's something to do with the oil pump that is a bit different/updated.
