Need some shims for the R1 and got shocked at local Yamaha prices.

Can anyone give a recommendation for someone like Precision Shims in Australia?

Regards

I bought some there, had them sent to my work, paid with my credit card,
it was cheap and the shims worked and were correct (checked with
micrometer), and a good range of sizes.

12 months later, my work ordered a lot of shims for their workshop, and
Precision Shims billed it onto my personal credit card. Obviously they had
kept my card details in their computer, and made the mistake of thinking
it was a company card. Simply a ludicrous mistake and I was not happy.

To their credit, when I complained and got the company parts guy to
complain, they did refund within a few days, and invoice the company.
But if I hadn't checked my card statement I could have been out of
pocket $500. If I had no spare money available in the credit card,
I could have been in a tight spot eg unable to buy groceries,
because banks take 5 days to process a refund here.

I suggest you can order from them and it'll be fine, just pay by Paypal,
not by credit-card-over-the-phone. The website says they take Paypal.

Hotcams has shim sets on fleabay for reasonable prices. If you know your dealer well, usually you can exchange shims if the ones you have are ones they need. I worked deal once where I "bought" the dealership (at their cost) the same number of shims I needed, but in the sizes they required, in exchange for the shims I needed out of their stock. You never now, it might work.

That's the problem with shim sets eg HotCams Inc., I needed about 6 each of only 3 sizes, and I hear that isn't uncommon. And after international postage, or distributor markup, it was cheaper to order custom for me.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I'll buy from Precision. The local dealerships change bike brands regularly and aren't interested in exchanging. I got quoted $14.95 a shim?

As above most of the hotcam shim kits only list three of each size and I need five of one.

Thanks again and happy new year?
