A lively discussion?

Are we just here to discuss matters or problems that some of us experience along the way with our bikes? Or do we come here looking for camaraderie, friendship, fellowship, and Brotherhood things? I know I wish that this board would become more talkative. AND being that I am in the general discussion section about motorcycles, I'll even throw in a little blurb about what happened to me the other day.

Please understand that for the last 5 years I have been on a very slow cruiser. I pulled up to a stop sign, and seeing no cars coming I pulled on out, got over some rough pavement and started a 1/3 throttle acceleration. For some reason the rear tire broke traction and the back end slid way out. WTF? So when I got to the next light, same thing, only this time it just spun the rear tire in a straight line. I found it to be quite entertaining as I have not felt such power in many years.

Just thought that might kick off some responses for one reason or another.

Tim

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub28.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherho ... The little things

Love the ida behind the thread! I am here almost daily wanting just what you speak of and never find it, nor do I start it. Well I'll jump in.
I can't say that I have had the 1/3 throttle loss of traction except on dirty roads where I expected it, but ever since I had Chuck D's shop massage my motor I lose traction on the center of the tire in 1st-4th at any wot acceleration above 8500rpm. I just love that feeling, but I think that I will now ditch the Bridgestone 020 for the 010 or 012 made for heavier bikes. I would rather have the front end lifting than the rear end spinning, except while leaning it over.

Thanks for the kick in the arse.

Corey

Corey,
I don't know if we will be getting that far east. I was checking out some of the roads that we'll be traveling at this website called Pashnit.com and looked up the roads you mentioned. They do look like good rides and I will mention them to the guy's.
I also came across one of this guys outings. 30 days from San Fran to Anchorage and back or something close to those destinations. Quite a read, but worth it and the guy's site is killer.
I found a link to it here and come to find out the guy's I'm taking my next trip with have been plannng our trip off the very same website. Crazy.

Harley Fruitcakes

LOL, the other night I was at a Local bar called Peacocks shooting pool and minding my own...Friend of mine got into a discussion about bikes...

It started off being about this guys Harley being able to outrun my buddies Cbr 600 Smoking Joe....Ok, thats pretty much a stretch of Imagination in itself. I was trying to avoid the conversation entirely, however, the guy said some things that broke me out in laughter...him not finding the humor, asked me if I rode, ofcourse I replied yes, he asked what, I answered a YZF TAce 1000R....He had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to lose it, Title for Title??!!?? Realizing the guy must have had one too many and a few more after that(My ace has a stage one jet kit, modified airbox, D&D exhaust..I have never had it dynoed, but it has to be putting 135-140 to the ground...10:2's in the quarter, street tires and no wheelie bars ,Power wheelies midway through second and I've had it up to 173mph)... so I asked simple question...If I win your Harley, will you throw in all your tools and some oil with it??

He REALLY didn't find the humor in that one!! He went on telling me how he was riding Harleys when the Japanese Bombed Pearl Habor...P.S. he looked like he was about 40 years old, you do the math??!!?? And I never did find the connection between bombing ships and riding bikes anyway even if he wasn't old enough to have been alive then...but oh well. I was really trying not to laugh anymore, this was about to get ugly....he was ready to go outside...Over a Motorcycle. Point is, if you ride sport bikes you have no doubt got rejection from a large percentage of Harley guys. For the most part they don't return waves, act offended if you park next to them,ETC, what gives??

I respect anyone on two wheels, we are all out there doing it...so why all the attitude? If your bike is so much better than mine...why is it so far behind me? This doesn't go out to ALL Harley guys, ofcourse I have been on Poker runs with some pretty nice guys on their Hogs who would do anything for you....It only goes out to the ones with their noses in the air. Anybody else notice the cold shoulder alot? Or is it just me?

Those are generally considered 1%'ers. But yeah, there are a lot of them out there to be only 1%. I see it a fair amount, but when the sun comes out here in Seattle (not very often I might add) bikes are everywhere and most do wave. I don't think anything of it because I'll miss a bike going the other way from time to time. Doesn't mean I'm a hater. Just keep waving and just keep riding.

Tim

Harley's in the UK...

Ah, didn't realise it was the same in the states. I thought seeing as though it was your home make Harleys would be the last word in m/cycles.

I work with a bloke who owns one, and although he's OK, I must confess to taking the p**s out of him and his bike a bit. They do the same over here, riding round with the 'black widdows' air about them as if they could crush wallnuts up their arse, totally ignoring sports bikes. Get them off the bikes and they come back to planet earth a bit. I have wondered if vibration has something to do with it? Maybe they can't see straight whilst riding a 2 wheeled compressor, a feasable explanation as Rod the lad I work with has a wonky eye....

I know the roads in the US are more suitable for these bikes, but in the UK it's a bit of a waste. They dont go, don't handle, and dont stop without spending a second mortgage on them. So come on all you budding 'dirt brothers' out there, just because you ride a tractor and we ride a missile, were still on the same side.

ps. Rod - if you read this (unlikely) no the exup doesn't melt in the sun.......

I dont live far from Matlock Bath a Mecca for bikers on a nice warm (or cold) sunday. In my experience I find the wave has given over to a nod of the head, but a friendly gesture is a friendly gesture. A fair few bikers dont nod back for one reason or another but I think its the Harley riders we notice the most. Perhaps it's us who are slightly blinkered.

Here in New Zealand you will almost never get a wave, nod or anything else from a Harley rider. Not sure why, perhaps Harleys sold here come with an attitude problem free of charge....

A few years back one of the local mags tested a Honda Shadow Ace (I think). Apparently it had all of the arley boys fooled, they were all giving a big smile and a wave. Then he comes across this one guy who "smiled and waved like I was Willy G's long lost brother. Then he clocked it was a Honda, and the smile turned into a scowl and the wave turned into an upturned finger." He nearly laughed himself off the road........

As far as I'm corcerned, if your on two wheels then your on two wheels. What your riding doesn't matter.

Over here in Blighty we make bikes with history and tradition (Triumph's,Norton's) that although not the best in the world have a certain kudos in the US. Could any of you guys over there say whether the Harley boy's treat these bikes with distain or is it just Japanese bikes they have a problem with.

Actually, im not so sure its just Jap bikes, as much as it is Rocket Jap bikes. My Brother rides a Honda Shadow... what I have noticed is, if I let him ride out in front, he will nomally get a wave back, and they quickly pull that wave back in before they get to me on my rocket.

Maybe its because they beleive the Shadow has NOTHING on their bike, thiers is probably faster, its a Harley, louder ETC. However, if I paid 22,000 for a bike that gets blow by off a bike less than half the price and twice as fast, I might have a little attitude about it.

Nay to that TNT. The Triumph's and Norton's are held in pretty high regards by the Hardley Ableson crowd. I think that TAce has it nailed down. I too rode a Honda Shadow ACE, actually that is what I traded in on my FZR. I was acknowledged more on it than I am on the FZR. Do I have a problem with that? Nope. Do they? Yep. Lastly, do I care? Nope.

Tim

So what your saying Tim, is there may be an inferiority complex here with these Hardley Worthit owners?

Make's sence, the exup will lose nearly all of them with just the first 2 gears...

You right about the sports bike issue, I used to ride a CB350S as a winter bike, and around march/april, when the bikes are coming back out, everyone would wave/nod etc. I took this to be because we were all glad to be back out on 2 wheels, but as soon as the CBR/FZR/RC30 came out, there was a huge change.

Triumph bikes, arn't there designs loosely based on kawasaki? I know the early ones were when the company re-started. Nice bikes though, but a little expencive for what you get.

Norton went the way of the dodo (again) in the 90's..

Hit the nail on the head there Simon, nothing better than destroying some fancy sports car.
Did Santa Pod the begining of this year, bloke turns up with a 355 Ferrari, and jumps the queue. He's looking at the exup and Sid's Blackbird and muttered something to the bimbo in the passenger seat. Sid couldn't help himself, says to the bloke, 'Wan't a photo? 'cause when we pull out of here thats the last time you'll see these!'

Amazingly as we left he tried it on, lasted about 1.5 seconds, give or take a tenth......

Me thinks that the older (ie: older than me 38 ) generation and the yuppie "I wanna start an expensive trend" poseurs are the culprits. I do have many a friend that ride Harleys and they are a great bunch of peeps. Just hate the fact that there are 1%'rs in the whole motorcycling world, regardless as to what they ride. Most of us ride to ride and those are the ones that wave. The ones that ride to have an attitude are the ones that won't.

Tim

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub28.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherho ...
