GUN Enthusiasts
I went shooting with Corey a few weeks ago and makes me want to get into it again - inlcuding target ranges and skeet.
I dont have my gun license (required in MA) but I should have it in the next 30 days.
I currently own a .357 magnum Ruger Security Six 6" barrel. I love this gun and it is accurate as hell. A bit more accurate with 38 spl loads but even the .357 loads are very tight.
As soon as I get my license I'll be looking for another revolver, currently interested in a new model blackhawk ruger chambered for .357. These are surely great pieces from ruger!
Corey shot with a newly acquired 45 ruger auto. ALthough I like the autos (semiautos yeah yeah) I still prefer the nostalgia of the old six guns! Nothing beats em in my mind (unless ur in a gun fight and the other guy has another 3-4 bullets in his auto lol)
I'm also very interested in a shotgun or rifle. I think I'm leabing towards a 12 gauge over/under mossberg silver series. They are quite reasonable in $$ and seem to perform reliably for most folks for well under $600.
Anyone else own/use handguns shotguns / rifles ? Preferences ? Pictures etc ?
Remember us northerners can either ski or shoot when the snow flies. Not much else..except that occasional house project that comes up now and then lol
ahhh...on the history channel I think it was there was a sharpshooters program aired just a bit ago...the shooting of aspirin with a small cabliber rifle impressed the heck out of me when thrown into the air at about 10 feet when the trigger was pulled - mind you it was a small caliber rifle not a shot.

Few guns
I have few guns, AR15, sks, AMD64, musberg 22, ruger 22, springfield 45, couple glocks .40, next is a wealther P22.
22's are sooo much fun to shoot and cheap.

well, i grew up in ohio where they put a gun in your hand shortly after being yanked from the womb.
anyway, i have quite a bunch. i do some trap/skeet stuff, as well as general range shooting. all of it's great fun.
i recently had four guns stolen, so if some one offers you a 30.06 model 70 winchester, a single shot 16 gauge, a browning .22 lever action, or a winchester .22 lever action, shoot them on the spot and take my fucking guns back. they were part of an inheritance left to me by my late grandfather and i would like them returned.
anyway, i am not a fan of the over/under set-up. don't like to compensate for a barrel below sights when trying to get that fast moving skeet from the corner stations. i would take a nice semi-auto anyday over a side-by-side, over-under, or pump. just my preference.
for pistol loads, i prefer the smaller caliber stuff. doesn't cost as much to use, easy to shoot, makes great practice. i have read many arguments about the 9mm/.40 debate, they both have their merits. i prefer 9mm however as it will always be available.
i caught that sharpshooter show. the shotgunner has been on american shooter lotsa times, but the best i have ever seen was the archer that shot an aspirin out of the air. much more impressive.

+1 on the Ohio thing Hooligan. I think I was shooting on a regular basis by age 6 or 7.
Angelos, I just picked up a P22 with the 5 inch a few months back. Best .22 pistol I've fired - hands down. Very accurate and incredibly smooth, even when dirty.
jjs, if you are looking at six-guns, I don't think you can go wrong with any model Ruger. The old'man used to have a few, flawless every time.

dig it haqr! i just seem to recall that there was always a gun around when i was a kid. course, my father and grandfather were avid hunters, so...
you like the p22? i have thought about picking one up for a long time now. nifty little gun, and the price is right even with the barrel extension. i refuse to pay over 400 bucks for a damn .22 caliber practice pistol. i mean cripes, plinking is one thing but some of the prices for other companies .22's are bordering on custom shop stuff.
anyway, i hear walther's p99 is also pretty darn nice, and pretty accurate to boot.

for some reason I like the pic with the leather usa jacket...I could hear the anthem in the backgroundangelos13 wrote:I have few guns, AR15, sks, AMD64, musberg 22, ruger 22, springfield 45, couple glocks .40, next is a wealther P22.

as I live in an area that the discharge of a firearm would likley draw bad attention...I've asked corey to take my .357 and shoot some 4x4 blocks of wood
i'm curious to see what damage it will do...wondering if it would be clean through depending on the bullet
anyone a fan of rifles that shoot small arms caliber ammo ? like a rifle chambered for .357 etc ? theres just something about being able to use the same ammo that intrigues me...but I realize you lose some of the rifle advantage in the first place, velocity, stopping power

No "real" hunting here Hooli, just some random, ummm, critters that would threaten the livestock we had when I was growing up. Otherwise it's all been target shooting with some competitive stuff in high school. And I hear ya on the price of some .22 pistols. Ouch. Even with all of Pa.'s taxes I still dropped less than $400 on it. I've shot many a Mark II, Beretta 22's and some others and the P22 is just in a whole different class (IMO, your results may vary). When it hit the market 2 years or so ago it caught my fancy, but being a new piece I held off a bit. I have yet to read a bad review or anyone complaining about it yet. The day after I bought it, I put 400+ rounds through it at a friends 60 acre camp in the boonies, not one issue. Even all gunked up, I was still putting down some nice rapid fire groups at 40-50 feet. My only complaint with it is getting it stripped to clean. It's a tad complex - the barrel actually fits inside a sleeve that has to be replaced just right into the frame, and you NEED the supplied allen wrenches to get the "flash suppressor" off to disassemble.
jjs, we've used many a 12ga for skeet with no issues (unorganized of course, nothing like you'd find at the local gun club). Pumps, semi-autos, single shots, over-unders, etc etc. A 20ga might be a little less work if you are going to make a day of just skeet though. Personally I'd go for the semi or a side-by-side, trying to to hit two skeet with a pump was less than easy. Also, you might want to take a trip down to the skeet club and get some opinions from the guys who are a little more into it. We just like to blow stuff up, or set it on fire.....

thanks for the info haqr, i appreciate it.
john, the guy that taught me how to shoot skeet said that a barrel between 26 and 28 inches is a good way to go. i have used 12 and 16 gauge on the skeet with no problems. at first i was worried the 20 gauge wouldn't have the velocity or pattern to catch fast movers, but it performed well even without magnum shells. i actually favored the 20 gauge due to it's lighter recoil, and target loads are pretty damn cheap. never use a pump for skeet, you'll never catch both birds.
i am looking to get something new for the trap/skeet range. it will be semi-auto, either 12 or 20 gauge, and have at least two lengths of barrels available with replaceable chokes. that way, you can spend some time on the trap range with your longer barrel, then swap it for the shorter and shoot some skeet.

No we tried skeet with .223's at an area that its safe (ie large lake that the round can safely fall without hitting property or people. No one was on the lake since the DNR closed it to all boat traffic for a week for algea reasons or something.Hooligan wrote:were shooting skeet with a cop's ar-15?
Took money from the cops at the old gravel pit we used to be able to use (landowner said it was ok and most the local cops who did shoot, shot there). Cops here dont have AR's other than the 4 supervisor squads. I have my own AR's.
