My other diversion

Post by djalbin »

Besides my '94 FZR1000 ... my other diversion is a 3800 Series III V6 with a M90 Gen5 Eaton supercharger. Next modification is a smaller pulley on the supercharger for more boost. I'm going to stick with a slightly smaller pulley to gain boost and HP without having to install an intercooler and other modifications. It's my daily driver ('04 Grand Prix GTP) so I'm not interested in making it into a racing engine; just something fun to drive. :D

YZFRob is right about the FWD/RWD 3.8L engines (good, my car is safe from marauding Camaros :D )

But here's a link to some GM Performance Parts and GM Crate Engines. You can get street engines with up to 500 hp in a small block V8 and 620 hp in a big block V8.

Hmmmm, realy? I was informed that all 3800 (3.8) blocks past 93 were "corporate" and all parts were interchangeable, oh well...

Well, an injected 454 would take some serious shoe horning to slide under the windshield, gotta remember, when ya open the hood on new camaros, more than half the engine sits under the cowl...

I think money well spent would be better thrown into the "Elky" (project of mine from high school that never got finished and has sat in a "coccoon" since 95). She is my would be baby if I could ever get motivated enough, and clean the garage out, to get back into street worthy mode...

"Elky" is a 1968 327 SS El Camino I purchased as a first car back in 91. Soon found out the frame was trash, they guy was a dick, wouldnt take the car back. But she is pretty pristine, having sat for the last 11 years in storage, she aint rusting and someday she will hit the streets again...

As far as supercharging the camaro, I would still love to, but Paxton and Vortex only make a 3.8 kit for mustangs, damn them anyways. Basically, my BIGGEST problem is too many project vehicles, not enough time or money...

As a side not, my father does have a unfinished product that needs a good home. It is a 1972 Chevelle "Nomad" Wagon. Yes, it IS an actual Nomad, GM brought them back from 68-72 on the Chevelle wagon 4 door base, limited run. Less than 8000 built in 1972, so it is quite rare...

Information on the http://www.crateenginedepot.com/ website says "This engine powers the Buick Park Avenue, Pontiac Bonneville, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and Chevrolet Impala", does not mention the Pontiac Grand Prix. The Grand Prix is FWD and the engine is mounted transversely with a transaxle. Are any of the above mentioned cars RWD?

Checkout the Eaton superchargers (handled by Magnuson http://www.magnusonproducts.com/)

Of course I'm right. Raced cars before bikes. Had a 88 Shelby CSX putting out over 275 AT the front wheels at 20psi. Could go up to 24 to 25psi safely. This was back in 90-91 before the fast and teh furious kiddies. Hell I TOOK what the car didnt need out or off (like side skirts, rear wing, rear seat, stereo, spare, factory recaros). Only thing added to the interior was a roll cage, racing recaros and 5pt racing harnesses. Tossed around $5K into the motor. Anotehr $2000 into the tranny (clutch) and suspension. Would eat unsuspecting f-bodies and Fox bodies alive in shear acceleration AND handling.

Also help a friend back then shoe horn a 440 Keith Black aluminum big block into a 4dr omni we built into a pro street car. He ended up getting kicked out of the drag strip after running 8.3 or 8.4 WITHOUT an IHRA or NHRA license. Basically a 2000lb car with an 800hp motor. It scooted. Just didnt turn worth shit.

That's pretty good. Unmodified, the M90 Gen5 is more for street use. I know it's good for 15 - 16 psi but I don't know it's limit.
