EXUP Worldwide was born from the ashes of the original EXUP Brotherhood – the definitive forum for all those who have interest in Yamaha FZ, FZR, and YZF motorcycles.
EXactly what I was thinking too Bob, sounded like a friggen V-8,
How much did I like the sound, well, I began to fathom how much it would cost to make a custom crank, and then thought about how I would go about writing the appropriate code to implement the crank electronically. Problems is, I'm still thinking about doing it.

Yes Yes I know, I said, I'm building a project YZF1070
Basement is done now, 850 finished and gone...
Gotta get the new siding up on the house.
Fixing the FZ1 up, cleaning up garage and then I might even begin

or visit your friendly Yamaha dealer for a starting price of $12,390 + tax, title, registration, dealer prep, etc ...
At least get your choice of Raven/Candy Red, Pearl White/Rapid Red, Cadmium Yellow/Raven or Blue/White.
Yes, Yes, I'm aware of that option Don, but that's the easy way. And I've never been one to do things the easy way. I't about an FZR loyalty thing man, although I'm not exactly sure why, probably because of that, "bikes are like significant others," theory I've got going on.

Don't forget, slice the cams into 4 pieces, reweld them at different angles into a straight line, etc...
would it be easier to buy a smashed R1 09 and just pull the engine and
drop it in your FZR?

Yeah, I'm aware of the cams too, not to mention the recalibrated firing sequence within the magic box.
Yes, you could always dump an 09 engine in a 92 frame, but still that's like a gender part transplant dude. Probably be nearly the same amount of work and the accomplishment wouldn't be any where nearly as trick.
Doesn't the saying go, rung what you brung?
Like I said, I always pick the hard way to do things.

That stuff isn't worth trying reproduce out of old parts. Really.
The new engine is change in simple geometry, it isn't revolutionary in any way.
It will absolutely break the bank of most of us trying to come anywhere close to that with old parts.
For the sake of sanity man! Let that thought go!
I'll let you add it up and then you can see perhaps just how insane I am, and just how committed I am to a riding position and a look.
Now I must confess, it's been nice having the FZ-1 over this summer, but it's just not my FZR
OK, here's a list of the parts I now have hanging up or sitting somewhere ready and waiting to incorporate onto my 92.
Engine Wise,
Full Weight matched Wiseco 1070 BigBore Kit with resleeved barrels
Falicon SuperCrank (Don't have it yet but will, I think I'll get them to also press in some nicer inserts for the wrist pins as well)
new cam chain/ new Hy-Vo chain
Port and Polish Head
1.5 or 2mm up on middle intake valve
fully replace all necessary valve train parts, seals for sure (just because)
will also be shimming the springs for equal pressure
YZF 6 speed with 1-3 gears back cut
YZF750 Curved Rad with Twin fans
(Labour hasn't been done as of yet and a few parts I have yet to acquire. I may yet make it even more juicier if I come across frugally outstanding deals like higher zute valves and rods for cheap. Thought I just saw an awesome deal on some carillo rods)
either the YZF basket with FZR Ring gear or falicon hardware
Higher output alternator with custom windings.
Scrapping the carbs for FI of course which has quite a long laundry list of upgraded parts in and of itself
Custom intake manifold for FI
Noligy Coils and Noligy wires with Ground Strap
Have PowerPack, But unsure whether or not I'll be using it just yet?
That's the motor and there's more than likely stuff I'm missing like the gauges and electronic speedo but those kinda things you just forget.
That's the Engine
Body Wise,
92 - 94 Fox-eye conversion
06 GSXR 750 Gold anodized Forks, of course these will be highly modified with Ohlins springs and revalving
R1 Wave Rotors
R1 Wheel and Radial Gold dots, Honestly don't know if the R1 and GSXR stuff will all fit together as of yet, that's what I have so far, Gold dots bolt pattern fit the forks so far but... Yeah, just don't know as of yet, workin' on everyone else's machines still but my own
will have some sort of custom clip ons to go with custom top triple
ZX14 Radial Clutch M/C
R1 Radial Brake M/C
R1 Subframe with underseat Twin exhaust,
I'd really like to get the exhaust to look like an MV F4's but I'm still a long way off of that so
VFR SSS arm with VFR 800 5 spoke wheel and R1 rear brake
Ohlins rear Shock
I've probably missed lots here, and the obvious how the hell to make it all fit, have proper geometry, and blah, blah, blah but..... That is the main list, and it will happen,
Will be doing something with the rear sets and it will become strictly a monoposto
Mostly, I just don't have a set of new gauges and the FI computer as I'm still sortin' that one out yet, got most everything else aside from the custom bitties
Paint,
Yamaha Blue, Black powder coated frame and swingam, gold rims and forks, with amber windshield,
Aside from that I just know it'll have blue, white, gold/yellow or amber, and black, don't know anything else for sure.
Last I counted was something past $4K and that's when I stopped.
Why, you ask, because I'm sick and not quite right in the head, I like it!!!!, and it's comfortable? Mostly because, if it wasn't this bike I was hopin' up, it'd be that other bike, just a weekness. I'm probably be thinkin' of ways I could change a Veyron, not that I could ever even afford being in the same room with one, let alone bastardizing one.
As far as the offset crank goes, really it's just a pipe dream as of now, but once I'm done this project and I find a machinist I trust again, we'll see???? It really was more of the thought of how to do it, but honestly, I think the hardest part about it would be the software and electronics.

Hey Sickle, you better hurry up with your bike coz when yours is finished you are gonna start on mine!!! Three things though: Scrap the suzuki and Kawa parts, don't want the f4ish exhaust look and paint job: Flat black and bits of white, clear bubble.
Sorry, Not takin' on anyone else's 'till I finish my own and sell my BMW 850i I bought for flippin' too, as well as the 03 FZ1. Thanks though, I'm flattered.

Ok Mike, you win - It is an illness. I can't argue with that.
I suppose that's how I ended up with a 1070 myself.
I wish I could say it's all that and a bag of chips (or a can of cheese)? Mmmmm.........Velveeta!
But it's not.
$3500 later too. Oh well, it's money I didn't spend on beer.
I'll never break the clutch basket at least.
Maybe someday I'll have time to ride it.
How come it's not all that and a bag o' chips Bob, tell me what's up? What would you do differently? It'd be good to know soes I don't have to find out the hard way myself?
Oh and btw to whomever started this thread, terribly sorry
