outer fork tube turning

Post by canappa »

hi, was a bit disapponted finding that i cannot pull the fork tube out from the upper triple clamp since there is a fixed position for the handlebar boss, it cannot be lowered in the tube cause a dent in the tube that set the place for the boss ....my idea is to have the outer fork tube turned by 5-10 mm so the boss can be lowered that size and I can slide the fork out the triple clamp that size, that should correct the weight distribution that is altered by using different size tires from the std once (120/70-180/55), many used to lift the rear changing the rods, but i have told that if possible is always better lowering the front. the right amount should be in the 5-10 mm range but who know for sure?

any other opinion?

Jim, the 5-10 mm turning size is the height to turn at the same diameter the tube have in the point where it stay in the triple clamp and in the boss that held the handlebar. so i can slide the forks out of the triple by 5 to 10 mm, cause at the boss lower part edge there is an increase in diameter that make impossible to slide the tube up in the boss and in the upper triple, the turning will reduce the outer fork diameter by 2 mm at most, making it same diameter that have in the upper triple clamp.

that should work?

Thx Jim, 95 and 92 have different fork tube, but seem the same variation in diameter in the upper part of the fork (near the handlebar boss) apply as well, look here at the riva catalog this is for 95
<a href="http://216.37.204.203/Yamaha_OEM/Yamaha ...
and this for 92
<a href="http://216.37.204.203/Yamaha_OEM/Yamaha ...
