Horn??

Post by Nbot »

Well, I'd like a louder horn than my "baby lamb" one on '94 fzr litre....So I'm considering doing a relay job like for the headlights and just swapping in a different horn, like from a volkswagen? Or just swapping in a different/louder horn (suggestions on make?)? Or maybe installing an Air Horn!! Any thoughts.....?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... ot>Nbot at: 7/28/04 9:20 am

Well...don't have any suggestions. Just reminds me of a time when my friend had a Geo Tracker with a little baby horn. We thought about putting a air horn on it to freak people out.
Nate
87 FZR 1000

We got clearence, Clarence. It can be done,a buddy of mine fitted twin air horns on his 02 R1. Talk about loud, something like 140 dB.
Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Has anyone seen my keys?
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
'94 FZR 1000

Yeah I think an air horn would be good deer-preventiveness....good thing in Colorado, just had a car accident where a land mine was thrown up on the road (read: deer--whole family of em) and the lady in front of me stopped suddenly and I wasn't able to

This has been a bad year for deer over here too. Have never seen so many of them hit on the bypass before. Nasty thing is that you can tell the ones that got hit by semis...usually you pass a leg about 100ft after the carcass...yuck.

Sorry about your bang-up in the car Bot. wouldn't you folks riding in deer territory benefit from one of them small deer evaders? You know the thing that makes a sort of frequency pitch when in motion?

-John

You know I run those on my car...I suppose that I could put them right under the headlight upside down on the fairing, probably not a bad idea....although it's not really proven whether they scare the deer away from the road or attract them to it!
'94 Fizzer 1000

I switched my stock horn for an aftermarket 105db one that I bought for $32 @ the local Moto shop. Much louder. It does the trick for me w/o too much work.

I once put a twin airhorn on my Yamaha JOG scooter (when I was 16 of course) I mounted it off the front axle nut, bloody loud but lost some ground clearance when cornering.

On another note, we have the same things as those dear thingys but for kangaroos (called a "Roo shoo") The idea is there but we've have the same argument as to whether they actually scare the roo away or attract them. Normally you pass by the "threat" unaffected. That is to say that by the time the fauna hears something coming you're gone. There is a theory that with the little jobbies installed making their high frequency noise as you move, the now innocently grazing kangaroo/dear hears it from a long way away, looks up and thinks........

"What the bloody hell is that? I better go check it out."

"ooohh looky, what are those bright things?"

WHACK!

Hi, my names Tim and I'm a postaholic.

*clapping*

Welcome Tim.

I agree Tim, whether it's a roo or a dear, the potential for a negative outcome as a result of collision is the same. I don't EVER ride something I can't control (ie. has a brain of its own.....like a horse....) and I guess the same goes for the risk involved in riding in an environment where something has a mind of its own..........highways and car owners excluded

Hi, my names Tim and I'm a postaholic.

*clapping*

Welcome Tim.

A Buick??

Post by Nbot »

Guess who's got a new horn installed off of an old Buick!? Well come on, guess...Yup its me, didn't blow the fuses, and its louder than stock fur sure, but its no air horn....but hey if somebody figures there's a Buick next to them maybe they'll be quicker not to merge into my lane....I also just did the headlight relay and only 10 amps were getting to the lights so maybe a relay for the horn is down the road....I post a pic later, but as (someone) said if you can get a louder horn that just bolts on then I'd do that b/c I had to weld a bracket for the horn and then bolt it on. Below are pics before I spray painted it black and bolted it (with a pin as well) to the "crossarm" from the middle clamp? behind the front fairing....

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/ ... I bought a $15 horn at JC Whitney and that included S&H. 105db is great. Still seems low though. Gonna have to do the relay job!!!!!
I be ridin in the Cali Bay Area:'88 FZR1K'01 ZX-6R
