has anyone seen or used this product? it supposedly helps smooth out the carbs air flow or something to that effect but i have never seen one in person.

do they work? is it junk? any thoughts?

Is there a link for that Hoolicopter? I'd be interested in learning more....
Clint.

'87 FZR1000T
gen·e·sis (jen-i-sis)n. pl.:The coming into being of something; the origin.

Ok, I looked. I'll bet if one set of hoses flowed fuel, and the other set flowed nitrous oxide, it just might make a noticable difference.

I actually think something like this is worth a second look. I am no carb expert but if the flow of air inside the airbox is turbulent, then something like this gadget might just honestly work since we're dealing with 4 individual carbs.

Anyone else think it might be worth 4-8 hp as claimed on a motor that revs as high as 11k rpm's?
-John

Very interesting site and little gadget they have there. I wouldn't say I'm sceptical as there's plenty of ideas out there that work in theory but I can see Hooli's point of veiw........If you're not sure, experiment with someone elses money
No reason why it wouldn't work tho but I agree with John, How well? I guess when you look at products like this it all comes down to bang for your buck.

Clint.

'87 FZR1000T
gen·e·sis (jen-i-sis)n. pl.:The coming into being of something; the origin.

Carbs mix fuel AND air. Most jet kits only change jets related to the fuel circuits. The flo-commander is a way to adjust the air side of the circuit. I imagine it would also "balance" the air to each of the carbs as mentioned.

I have no experience with flo-commander, but I imagine it will vary by application how much it will help and how much tuning can be done with it. Also, once you have the carbs jetted nicely, this would be a simple way to fine tune the carbs for changes in weather, altitude, etc without having to open up the carbs.

I'ld like to experiment with the flo-commander, especially with one on each the low and high speed circuits. Seems a bit pricey just to play with though...

yeah pricey for apparently just some hoses and a multi-port valve ie kind of like that of an aqaurium ?

I did notice dyno graphs are normally exhibit very choppy data lines...and this thingy supposedly helps to smooth that out which would benefit drivability
-John

I guess it's one of those products where you're paying mainly for the intellectual or proprietry information. Sometimes the simplest items are what make people rich and there doesn't appear to be an awful lot of materials there to justify the cost.
Still looks like it'd be worth a bash tho
Clint.

'87 FZR1000T
gen·e·sis (jen-i-sis)n. pl.:The coming into being of something; the origin.

Yes,

I'm wondering who is willing to take the bait. I'm curious to see the results and I am very much a skeptic of the device.

It seems that all they are doing is plumbing all the main air jets together in one common area and the benefit is that they all see the same pressure. If you look at how a carb works, this device does not intuitively have any advantage and does have one clear dis-advantage.

the main jet circuit works through the delta pressure that is created by the velocity of the air in the carb throat. The bowl is vented to atmosphere and should stay at atmospheric pressure at all times. the pressure in the carb throat depends on the air velocity. The relationship between the pressure drop and air velocity is exponential, which means each additional increase in velocity creates a much stronger pressure drop. Remember that the pressure drop draws the fuel from the bowl into the carb throat.

If the main jet circuit did not include an air jet, then the air/fuel ratio would change with air demand and be impossible to tune for anything but one level of air demand. The air jet has the job of making the pressure drop in the main jet circuit linear, even though the pressure drop within the carb throat is not. The air jets are positioned at the carb inlet and this location is important to their function. The air jet introduces a controlled amount of air into the main jet circuit to alter the pressure drop. The air jet has to introduce a greater amount of air at high speed to offset the greater pressure drop being created at the carb throat. Remember that the air jet is one fixed size restriction and so any variability in air delivery depends on changes in pressure across its restriction. This is done with the ram air effect from the carb inlet.

In summary, the net pressure drop that occurs in the main jet circuit is the sum of two phenomenons: the pressure drop in the carb throat the ram air pressure increase at the air jet inlet. The flo-commander moves the air entry point to a zone where the velocity of the air is low and therefore would marginalize the ram air effect and in theory would cause the jetting to be rich on top, with all other settings equal.

To me, this device appears to prey on the less knowledgeable who are prone to confuse flash with substance. Of course, that is my opinion, based on my present understanding of carb theory, which is subject to change over time with any increase, or decrease, in wisdom.<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... oapbox.gif ALT=":soap">
