stupid question

just a stupid question here...taking off both wheels for the powder coating...anything weird I should know about before doing so? <p></p><i></i>

The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked. I know that it is a cliche', but one that rings true. <br><br>I cannot answer your question, for I have never taken the wheels off of my FZR. Tomorrow I will learn, as I am taking my rear wheel off to fit some new rubber. If powder coating, the best thing to do is replace the bearings and seals. The powder will get into and on anything metal causing build-up on the rubber seals and bearings. Since there it is a electrostatic process! Yeah I am going to have the bearings pressed out before and into after the powder coating...and also remind the P.coater to please not spray into the bearing shaft...I'm definitely looking forward to it!! did you see the other thread "wheels painted"? <p></p><i></i>

Does powder coating or respraying wheels cost alot of money?<br>I've got some terrible chips out of the back wheel on one of my bikes that would look much tidier for a paint job.<br><br>H<br><br>P.S. I am in the UK <p></p><i></i>

If you are going to remove the bearings make sure you mask the wheels yourself prior to giving them to the powder coaters. If you don't you will end up with overspray on the bearing surfaces (electrostatic charge attracts the powder to the metal and it will go every where not masked) & that will be a real curse. The best way of masking is to over the face of the hole not on the bearing surfaces or you may end up with a lip of paint on the bearing edge once again a pain to clean.<br><br>Richie <p></p><i></i>

thanx for the tips barney and rat...will do, sirs. And hiras, please see the thread below this one "wheels painted" but no I think it is a very cheap and effective way to spice up the fizzer/yzf. Probably like/less than $150 for everything (bearings pressed, p.coated, etc)...I'm getting mine done on Monday and shinizzle i'm excited!! <p></p><i></i>
