Finally it works, Mark. Everytime I clicked on it I got that "Hacked Error" message that we've been getting for the last couple of days. <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... odpost.gif ALT=":goodpost">
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...
There are some who call me........Tim?
Top Speed = Mach 0.197 or so...
1994 FZR 1000 <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...

turbo FZR

Post by FFP »

he, thanks for the answer,

what turbo did you use??
195 rwhp, running about 8/10 psi i presume

(how) did you retard the ignition??

carbs are difficult to tune??
tried everything i guess

there are several R1's and gixxers with cv carbs working OK
the afr line looks ok from 7000 up
how much did you run the bike, technical reliability
strength of gearbox etc.
do you think it Will hold for a few miles

intercooler under tank is also used om rsr zzr1100 turbo

measured any temperatures of intercooler??

i'v also seen the megasquirt and a friend has it on his car
works OK but also has his limitations.
it measures inlet vacuum and boost and the spikey boost characteristics of a motorcycle would be difficult i think

thanks, Marc from Holland

Turbo is IHI RHB52 with a bigger exhaust housing and compressor wheel.
I'm not 100% sure of the boost level as the dyno operator was keeping a close eye on AFR and it is next to impossible to watch the boost guage on the road but I'm guessing around 10psi from the occasional look I get.

Ignition is stock but with dyna coils- no retard.

Carbs drove me insane ! I tried every combination of needle type, needle height, main jet size, stock slides, modified slides, stage 3 jet kit, no stage three jet kit, float height, with and without a pitot tube. The Exup carbs just seem VERY sensitive to any signal applied to the float bowl and as soon as you hook the bowls up to the boost line the fueling goes to crap at low revs. The dyno run does not show just how badly my bike was running off boost, it spluttered and missfired like crazy on a hot day making it a pain to ride and also meaning the boost did not come in untill higher up the rev range, on a cold winters day when the rich fueling had less of an effect I got boost fromm 4000 rpm.

I've been running the bike turbocharged for 3 years and the only failure was the head gasket through detonation, this was my fault because the turbo was overboosting due because of a too small exhaust housing and the fact that I had no decompression plate, with the Wiesco 1040 kit I measured the compression at 13:1 now it is around 10:1
It is fitted with a billet cluch basket for relibility.
6 speed gearbox has proved very strong.
I should soon have some intercooler temps as megasquirt needs an air temp sensor which is now fitted.

I fitted a restrictor jet from a Suzuki GSXR 750 in the boost line to prevent spikes to the map sensor as well as a small fuel filter to act as a cushion.

Megasquirt may have it's limitations but is light years ahead of grubby old carbs and can be adjusted without taking the whole damn thing apart and now has a 12x12 VE table giving more map points.

Mark
