time for a new torque wrench, opinions needed.

Post by Hooligan »

hi guys, topic says it all. i am in need of a new torque wrench or two (low torque settings and high settings). any favorites out there?

i see craftsman has some new ones out but they aren't dual scale for ease of use. the accuracy is better than there commonly available units however.

i was also looking at sk/facom and snap-on.

Actually, you need two wrenches, one low and one high.

If you can swing it, get a pair of Snap-On wrenches, you would need a 3/8" drive and a 1/2" drive. I have a off brand 1/2" drive that is fairly accurate and reads upto 250lbs. My 3/8" drive reads upto 80lbs.

Do NOT....let me repeat DO NOT get a crapsman. I have two of them and the lock ring is plastic. Broke on the third usage. Took it back and Sears told me that it's not a "tool" it's a precision instrument.....they refused to cover it when it was obviously a defect.
Buy a Snap on or a Mac and be done with it.

Jim--I suspect you gave them an earful when they didn't replace the wrench. If they held their ground, try another Sears store and go on a weekend evening when the High Schoolers are working the register.
