So I figured we might as well turn this into the FZ1 thread, for all the
members here who have the LAST 5-VALVE EXUP that Yam makes...

So here is part 2:

GENUINE PANNIERS

This week I installed the Yamaha pannier frames to hold genuine
bags (the Yamaha FZ1/TDM hard bags are all the same pattern
as FJR1300 bags, completely interchangeable).

The frames are reasonably priced by current terms I suppose, but
they are UGLY as SIN. No wonder it's hard to find a photo of them.
Just as well they bolt off easily leaving almost
no trace, just one small tab under the seat each side.

Getting that tab installed under the tail seems like a daunting task
but it is a lot easier than it seems, and only need be done
once.

What is just as bad as the frames, is the half-assed lighting setup.
The pannier position obscures the brake light from the side,
and blocks the indicators, so you end up with indicators
hanging off stalks, and a cheap-ass ugly alternate taillight
hanging off that ungainly long
original fender.

I have ordered a "fender eliminator"/"tag holder"
which will make life a lot easier, not to mention prettier.
I am yet to figure out a solution for the indicators, maybe some
mounted on the bags?

As for the bags, they're nicely built, average space, and cost the price
of a small caribbean nation.

JEEZ Yamaha, AU$2300/pair?
I bought mine off Ebay, from an FJR1300, for $300, new in the box,
a real steal, but a pair can be had used for reasonable
money, like $500, regularly.
One day I might paint mine to match.
Yamaha even offer a set of 3 locks/keys
as a genuine part, or a set of two locks/keys, so you can key two
bags (and perhaps a genuine topbox) together.

I was just going to get some soft bags from Yamaha but they look like hard bags kinda as they've been formed with that soft/hard schtuff? I think they look pretty slick and $200 I think is all brand new?

Oh I've seen photos of those, we don't get those here.

We don't get them in Canada either but, it won't kill me to ship them up from the US, unlike what it would cost to ship them to Aus I imagine. The stock bags for the first gen are a joke though, literally I think only 6 or 7" across.
