Hello to you all... I'm a fresh surfer here and glad that
I found a dedicated forum for my kind of bikes.
:-)

I own a 93 FZR1000 that recently gone thru an engine
overhaul, and got a 1040 Wiseco hi-compression pistons kit.
It got an "Arrow" slip-on & K&N filter in the stock air box.
Dyno chart show 150.9 BHP on 9200 RPM and 11.7 KG\M same RPM
and the engin works smoothly.

But... The stock clutch, and full "Barrnet" kit are seems
to have sliding point on the 9000 RPM.
I tried them both... but no used. They "slide" for 1000 RPM.

And now for the Questions...

Is it possible that the clutch is sliding because its
a 92 model clutch ? (instead of 93)

Is it possible that it's because I've changed the oil
to a fully-synthetic 10\40 PJ1 ?

Does anyone know what is the best oil for this bike ?
Should it be a fully or semi synthetic ?
Can anyone recommend me a certain brand ?
I got here Motul, PJ1, Silkoline, Aral !!!

Another thing is the suspensions...

The rear end of the bike seems to be lower than it should
Do you know a thing about this problem ?
is there any recommendations to modified the front fork ?

Is there any good Web-Site that accept International Credit
Cards, and sell stock and after market parts for this bike ?

Any comment will be appreciate and I thank you in advance
for your time.

Thank you

Ezra

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub28.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherho ... aster>EXUP Webmaster at: 4/26/03 10:08:38 pm

Slipping clutch

Post by ChuckD »

The oil has a lot to do with your clutch activity, but there are also other problems at work it would seem. Check with your Yamaha shop and ask them to view the fish on both models. There are diferences in the clutch basket ( a constant 1000 dilema) and the stack itself. Be careful when using a complete aftermarket clutch because Barnett recomends one way, while Yamaha recomended another, kinda screwy if you ask me. As far as oil, I run Yamalube in one 1000 and Silkolene in the other, the difference between the two? To be honest, I really can't tell.
Good luck
e-mail with other questions if you got em

clutch and more

Post by bikeazoid »

i had the barnet also, and noticed the same thing on my almost stocker. at like 8 or 9 it would just break free. chuckd said that the aftermarket clutches do this. if you take out your stock clutch, you notice there is a strange spring in between the number 7 and 8 plates or so. somehow this didnt fit in with my barnet clutch. and it slipped allot. chuckd mentioned that in the stock setup there are three diffrent types of thicknesses, but the aftermarket setup only has one size. and barnet couldnent comment on it. swap back to stock, and all was forgiven.

rear end. it seemed low on mine also, i had my dog bones shortened, or lengened, i forgot, just like 20mm and it raised the bike like two inches. a good buddie mentioned if you get the dog bones off an 87/88 it lifts the bike perfectley, ide do that next time, so i dont worry about those welds breaking at the track, or at 160.

zoid

only a year late on this comment...

The barnett friction plates I got to replace my 90 is made up of three different sizes. Not one.

I was planning on installing the barnett setup 'just because' I have them. Now seeing the slipping at 9k rpm's post I at least will be prepared to say you all were right.

Hello everyone, greetings from Whistler, BC, Canada.

I'm quite glad I looked at this thread because I was investigating altering my dog bones to give more rear ride height. A local shop has strongly advised against it, as they felt it would severely affect high speed stability. (speed wobbles, tank slappers, etc.) Is there is anyone who has ridden an FZR 1000 with a lifted rear end, please respond.
I am interested in gaining about two inches at the taillight.

My Bike. 1992 FZR 1000.
530 conversion
stage 1 Dynojet kit.
K&N filter.
Vance&Hines ss2r slip-on.

BTW: When I had my transmission rebuilt, I was strongly
advised by my parts guy to use a stock clutch, which
I did, and it works fine. I use Yamalube 20-40.

These are my two FZR1000's. The one on the left is with the 10mm SHORTER dogbone to give a 2 inch lift. The one on the right is stock. Theres a few posts about the jack kit.

<a href="http://home.comcast.net/~john.stempien/ ...

<a href="http://p072.ezboard.com/fexupbrotherhoo ...

<a href="http://p072.ezboard.com/fexupbrotherhoo ...

Some folks on the board don't like it. I think more of a 'don't change what YAMAHA designed'. Some folks including myself love it. With stock bones your sitting IN the bike, with the jack up kit your sitting on TOP of the bike and feel more in control. But I won't rewrite whats already been said. Take a look at the posts. There is also a guy that djalbin said can make them. I think djalbin experimented with different length bones and settled on something less than what I did.

Greetings back to Canada (you folks beat my Bruins!)

Yep most posts I have read including experts recommend sticking with STOCK OEM friction plates etc. Try the search method on TECH TIPS and 89-95 FZR1000 etc and you'll see posts on it already.

Oh and the shop that strongly recommended against it, tell them if it were up to them hot rodding a 57 chevy would not have happened. Or upping the boost on a T-Type Buick cuz it would blow the engine. Or the folks that told me NOT to run NOS and 12lbs boost on my 90 5.0L. 11.7 sec later at 124mph reinforced the idea, try anything once.

Actually, think about it this way. If a rider of say 250lbs gets on the bike, wouldn;t it be lower than a 150lb rider? So with that said, I really like my bike now when I get on it. It feels perfect for me. The 90 bike with the lift feels similar to the 95 fzr1000. If you put a 90 and 95 side by side you'll notice the 95 sits higher. The lift DOES add a subtle increase to the weight on the wrists.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >jjs777 at: 5/1/04 9:41 pm

Thank you very much jjs777 for taking the time to repeat what you have written before for others. Since the big FZR's use a relatively gentle steering head angle, I had my doubts as to whether it would cause severe handling problems lifting the back end. Thanks again. I'm a Ford guy too.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... fzr1000 at: 5/2/04 6:58 am

I should say this too as a base for my opinions on the board. I have yet to do any track days so my impressions come from street riding.

It would be interesting for someone to share their riding experience on the track before/after the lift kit. I don't think anyone on the board has done a post on this. I'd like to read it if someone has. Even if it's a yzf750 or so. Like what did it do for track times and stability etc.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >jjs777 at: 5/2/04 8:16 pm

Oil and rear height

Post by djalbin »

Ezra,

There is a discussion on this forum regarding oil preferences ...
p072.ezboard.com/fexupbrotherhoodfrm24.showMessage?topicID=454.topic

Regarding rear height, it's easier to raise the rear than it is to lower the front. Replace the dogbones (suspension links) under the rear shock with shorter links. This will raise the rear. How much shorter depends on the tire size/profiles on your bike and your riding style. It takes some experimenting with various links to determine what you like on your bike.

Don

he dj you saw the date on the post from ezra? from '01 ?

Also did you ever record what it takes to achieve a given height raised? So far it seems like 10mm shorter is equivalent to 2 inches higher in the rear? Is that right? What about the other ones you tried? 5 and 3 was it?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >jjs777 at: 5/2/04 8:16 pm
