This weekend I changed the oil in my FZR 1000 (8 I have the right and left lower fairing off. I took the bike out for a spin after the oil change was completed and notice a weird noise coming from my clutch housing? What could this be, I intailly thought it was the values. This was before the oil change. I have had this weird noise since I started her up for the summer. Any advace would be helpful. Do I need to tear into my clutch?

Do you notice the ticking at idle or at speed? I have a noise that I have been unable to locate, but was told that it may be the starter drive chain. My noise is at idle and just off idle, anything above about 1800 rpms and it dissapears.

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers

Thats funny because it at Idel 1500 rpm and a little more about 2500 rpm. What is the starter drive chain. Is a costly repair? what am I looking at. I like to work on my bike myself where possible.

Total engine tear down (split the cases). Now I'm not saying that that is the problem with either of our bikes. That is just what I was told about mine. I was also told not to worry too much about it either. Until I figure out what the noise is or until I get too used to it, I'm gonig to continue to worry a little.
Just went and checked mine. My 94 idles @ about 800 and the noise goes away around 1800. It is always there at start-up when cold, most of the time when warm, but sometimes it makes noise at all. So, I'm at some-what of a loss...

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... These motors really clatter at low rpm when the hyvo chain bangs against the guide block and it disappears around 2k. You just need to verify that's all it is.

There is a hyvo chain from the crank to the sprag clutch on the starter behine the cyl block
the chain is endless and has to be installed over the end of the crank...
Jim

The noise you are hearing is the chain that goes from the crankshaft to the starter
This is normal and nothing to worry about
Jim

Well today I had a tech look at my bike and the weird noise, looks like the clutch. When the tech open up the clutch basket it had a broken piece, and one of the plates were broken too, But he started it up to show me that the noise was still coming from behind the clutch basket. He ran out of time but will look at the components behind the clutch basket tomorrow. the tech suspects that a bearing is out or something. What do you guys think?
