Having trouble taking off my muffler...

I have a 1992 FZR600...

Recently, I had to replace my footpegs. I tried to take off the muffler (stock) to gain easier access to the right side. After I loosened the bracket and mounting bolt, I couldn't pull it off. Obviously, I don't expect it to slip right off, but even a great effort didn't budge it. Soon I will be buying a slip-on, but if I can't slip the old one off, how can I possibly slip a new one on?

Any suggestions on how to pull the original muffler off?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx.
John.

Heating up the metal usually allows one to remove the exhaust. Just turn the bike on and let it run for a while - then with a pair of heat resistant gloves give it your best shot.
-John

You may have to take the whole system off. If so, take a large flat-head screwdriver and a hammer, and lightly tap the screwdriver while it is up against the flange of the slip-on. Get as much of the tip of the screwdriver on the flange as possible. Work your way all the way around. Apply more forceful hits if needed, but start out lightly. Maybe spray a little WD-40 around the coupling as well. Capillary action will get some of it up inside, maybe enough to loosen it up.

Now if the same thing applied to getting my endcap off....
Tim

<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Has anyone seen my keys?
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
'94 FZR 1000

Can you use some "Nuts Off" to possibly loosen the light corrosion in the area where they meet. I use the stuff on everything. Just spray before you goto sleep and try in the morning. It usually works/helps.
