Cylinder carbon deposits...

Hey ya'll...just thought I'd show ya the plugs from my girlfriends 1992 Seca 600 after I used Yamaha Ring Free Fuel Additive. The stuff is supposed to "clean away carbon and varnish from ring lands, piston, combustion chamber, intake and exhaust manifolds, ports, valves, carburetors and jets in 2 & 4 cycles." Usually I think fuel additives are a joke, but I'm thinking this one did its job as it says for the "Shock treatment": Engines with significant carbon build-up may experience plug fouling as carbon is removed. Which is fine b/c I was planning a tune-up anyhow (engine oil also has to be changed afterward b/c drains down into pan if doing shock treatment, but not for "constant treat"), but the carbon removal is obvious here--you can definitely see debris sticking to the plugs (plus I was hoping to cheat on a full carb clean)

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/ ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... ot>Nbot at: 7/28/04 10:48 am

So will the debri's cause any problems with scoring of the cylinders etc?

I don't know exactly, I was worried about the visible buildup on the threads where the plugs go....but I guess the theory is that the additive loosens up the stuff enough to get burned and shouldn't have to change the plugs again....so I'm not really sure Tonup, you'd think it wouldn't though>>>>>

Regular Cleaning

For regular cleaning of the cylinders, rather than shock treatment, I use a Lucas Oil product called Top Cylinder Lubricant and Injector Cleaner. Comes in a 5.5 oz bottle to treat 25 U.S. gallons. So I use 1 oz in a full tank of gas (5 gal). It lubricates and cleans injectors, carburetors, top cylinders, valve seats, etc ... I can really tell the difference in the performance of the engine when I have this stuff in the tank.
Don

I buy mine at the local auto parts stores. In this area the most common stores are Pep Boys, Auto Zone, and Checker Auto.
Don
